Now that the EXXON article is displayed with the
new link, the old ref's should not go to different new articles as they do, but should show dns errors so the search engines will clean their caches of them.
Is this a bug in the IMC software, that when a comment is hidden the entire article is then also hidden?

Hi Wayne,
Please give me a link or the article number if this one is not the one you are refering to. I don't think an article was hidden. Perhaps you are refering to a recent comment by Jack Ryan to your article:
http://www.ucimc.org/newswire/display_any/18305

I think what you may be refering to the fact that your article has been pushed off the Local Newswire by newer articles. It is still available in the link to All Newswire Listings (where all articles are listed together according to date they were orginally posted), but it will be back a few pages, since this page includes all the Elsewhere Newswire listings, of which there are many more, relatively speaking. This is the way the software is supposed to work, BTW.

Please note that I think you will find that there is a hot link back to your original article above the entry for Jack's comment that is now in the Hidden files. You can click on it if you want to see the comment in the context of the article itself, although the Hidden comment will not show when you go to view the article.

Both 9457 & 8639 are nowhere exept hidden to be found if you click on reference links you do not get the article.

Wayne,
These two articles:
http://www.ucimc.org/newswire/display/8639/index.php
http://www.ucimc.org/newswire/display/9457/index.php
are both showing. Neither one has any comments, hidden or otherwise. So I'm still uncertain what problem you are seeing.

In my experience, the software does not hide anything but the specific item being hidden and no one else has mentioned the problem you are seeing.

This article above displays when the external link indicating it is my newswire message 8639 is clicked. This used to be my newswire link, now it is not! The above is not one of my articles! The same goes for 9457
those are indicated by search engines as my articles when they are not, my article is now not shown, it is about Mr. Lee Raymond of EXXON MOBIL

below: are the links returned by the search engine.

Wayne,
Here is the direct link to your article:
http://www.ucimc.org/newswire/display_any/18305

The other links you provided are back to pages of all articles on the Newswire by date. I am uncertain how these numbers relate to the article number, but you don't want to use them to refer to your article, since they will change as newer articles are added to the Newswire, pushing older articles farther back in the archive.

Your article is currently near the top on page 11 of the "all newswire listings" pages. This will change as new articles being added to page one of "all newswire listings" will steadily push it back to higher numbered pages.

Note that you can also use the "Advanced Search" feature and put in your name as the author and pull up all your articles that way.

As far as I can tell, the software is working as it should. But Dada (the name of this php-based software package) is not perfect and we just have to live with what we have (although it does receive regular updates by the author and those working cooperatively on it.) Like most software, there is usually a work-around that allows you to find what you need. I hope my suggestions will allow you to do that.

Under the IMC search, I only found the parent article by searching for Exxon, . Unfortunately people who look for stuff under my name won't find the article, the only links showing in search engines to the article are outdated, they wouldn’t know that they should search the IMC site for EXXON to find the article. Why are not the links updated when the newswire moves the article numbers?

Wayne,
The specific article number never changes, so that is what you should use as a permanent reference any article.

The numbers you referred to are NOT article numbers. In fact, I'm a little uncertain what they refer to other than the page the article currently displays on in the queue of all articles, which will change, as I've said, every time a new article is added.

Any new articles posted push the older articles further back into the archives. This is something that is common to all versions of Indymedia software, as it prevents a hierarchy of articles on the Newswire from being formed, except for by date of posting.

Here at UC IMC, as at many IMCs, we have chosen to grant priority to Local articles temporarily on the mainpage, but once they move off the mainpage (as yours did) they revert to the order of date of posting in the Newswire archives. Since the Local Newswire moves much more slowly due to the lower frequency of postings on it than on the Elsewhere Newswire, when Local articles are pushed off the mainpage they will revert to a page that is often far from the top of the queue since they are relatively older than articles being pushed off the Elsewhere Newswire.

Again, if you send the specific article number link to your friends, they'll always be able to find it and any comments made to it (except for the Hidden ones).

Unfortunately, I am not sending anything to anyone. People who are checking on the origin of the micro-computer or doing research on the same (students) in several countries, find my name on the articles. They place my name into a search engine to find out what else is happening lately, they follow the link then find out the page at the end is not about me or anything in the subject area they are looking for, then they send me and e-mail because my e-mail address is listed in the IMC link. I do not know them at all!

Whatever happened it occurred in the last 72 hours, because I got e-mail concerning that Exxon article as early monday evening, saying it could not be found, before that I received comments that letters had been written or best wishes with my heat engine invention.

Wayne,
When I put "Wayne Pickette Exxon" into Google, the top reference it returns is your article #18305. Following the link takes you directly to your article, along with the comments to it.

If it's people you don't know, if it were me, I wouldn't sweat it too much. If they can find your articles well enough to find your email, then they are seeing the whole thing, unhidden. Perhaps they are just confused. If that happens, just send them the direct link to the article I gave you so they can find it. And your article was on the mainpage until just a few days ago, so they are just not looking far enough back in the archive of all Newswire listings to find it again after first seeing it on the mainpage.

For your own later reference, you can always boolamrk your articles in your browser so that they are easy to find. Go Home to the mainpage after you are done publishing, then click to the link on the Newswire that will take you back to your article. Bookmark the link to save it. (Note: Do not use the link to the article that is initially displayed when you first publish the article, because that will not be a good link, since it is just the publish link and not the permanent one.)

BTW, Google will also return Hidden articles on our website, so there is no reason why people can't find your article, unless they come here expecting to find it still on the mainpage after several weeks, which as I explained scrolls older articles off when they are replaced by newer ones.

I'm hoping that if Judge Forehand receives enough letters, he'll hand that $9091.49 check he is holding onto over to me, it has my name on it. Then I can purchase the raw materials I need for the prototype heat engine.

Jack,

IMC is the only place I can espouse my opinions, all the other web sites that have information about me are controlled by other people or groups. A couple of sites you have to pay for a subscription to read the information they have about me. One site has incorrect information, I never have worked for Fairchild Semiconductor, although I almost bought the company, once. I have attempted to have them correct the data to no avail.

A lot of people besides the IMC crowd read the articles I post, according to the court clerk, Judge forehand has received about 30 letters from different people, a couple from international posts.

Also some people do care, because that is how the first internet mention of me occurred back in 97, it ballooned from that. I was complaining to everyone after Ted Hoff lost to Gilbert Hyatt, finally the Rolanda show scheduled me for an appearance in August, then the entire Rolanda show was canceled in May of the same year.

A Canadian computer scientist listened to my story, and then he looked over my evidence, thereafter he wrote the first Web entry.

Jack,

Currently I'm battling a law firm representing my ex-employers creditors, Pro Se, in the effort to collect the $9091.49 check made out to me, which was supplied by the major contractor on the Champaign MTD project.

I am also talking with others about the deal I offered for investment money.

All the time, I must remain focused on my objectives. I cannot go off on tirades, especially in court, they are useless.

I have a time limit which is precipitated by the health of my Model Maker, rather than my own health. Without Jim, it would take me time to find another model maker or do the work myself, while attempting to perform other design work.

I'm more than busy.

Jack,

One of my e-mail addresses is in every comment I make, there is nothing to keep you from communicating with me directly if you have so-called help to say. That $9000.00 is a loss from last year, I want to recover if possible, since it is a matter of a Judge's changing his mind, if I could get popular support to sway the judge, that is my only way to influence him since I've done everything legal I can do.

The materials and tools to build the prototype cost less than $5000.00 plus the time of myself and my model maker and few shops around Champaign.

Working for a temp agency, I am stymied as to how to do that stuff any faster without being able to purchase what I need.

What alternative do you suggest for the short term? Venture capital is out, I've had bad experiences with them all the time because my solutions are rather unorthodox. Such as in 1990 with my knowledge of electronics, my little company won a contract from NEC for their "Clip" battery charger for the ultralight notebook computer's, rechargeable lithium batteries. Because of my entry into electronics at an early age, I had knowledge other engineers did not have at the time. Because some components I used were from 1969 which had been discontinued, but I had equivalent parts made for a little extra cost! My design was $12.00 cheaper and 1/2 the size of the nearest competition and it had automatic UL approval to boot!

Do you understand now, why I have a problem with venture capitalists?, I have to explain too much about my techniques because they have nothing to reference them to.
