5/20/04-CFL ALERT: WAR CRIMES OCCURRING RIGHT NOW, EMAIL, FAX AND CALL YOUR REPRESENTATIVES AND THE PRESIDENT NOW!

Wednesday morning, the Israeli Occupation Forces fired three shells into a crowd of 3000 peaceful protesters, killing scores. Most of the dead were children. We don’t have precise numbers on how many Palestinians have been killed, as the Israeli army will not allow either medical personnel or reporters into Rafah. Reports indicate that Rafah’s morgue is overflowing and locals are asking anyone with large refrigeration systems to donate them for use as makeshift morgues. Reports indicate that there are at least 50 dead from the last two days alone and that hundreds more are injured. Please contact your officials immediately, email, call or fax and ask that they intervene.

TALKING POINTS
*Amnesty International issued a report today stating that Israel is committing war crimes in Rafah. The report says, “Israel's unjustified destruction of thousands of Palestinian and Arab Israeli homes as well as vast areas of agricultural land has reached an unprecedented level and must stop immediately.” Contact your representatives today and ask them to uphold international law immediately. Tell your representatives that the US is responsible for Israeli war crimes because the US is the largest donor of welfare to Israel.

*Amnesty International is asking the US to stop the sale or transfer of weaponry and equipment used by the IOF to perpetrate war crimes against Palestinians. We call on all American companies and universities to immediately divest from Israel until that country abides by international and humanitarian law. In fact, the UN’s special human rights envoy in the West Bank and Gaza said on Wednesday that the Rafah strikes were war crimes and a violation of humanitarian law, and that the Security Council should consider imposing an arms embargo against Israel just as it had against the apartheid regime in South Africa in 1977.

*Leaders from around the world, including Israeli Knesset members are calling the events in Rafah a massacre and war crimes. British Prime Minister Tony Blair on Wednesday condemned Israel's recent military offensive in a Gaza refugee camp as "unacceptable and wrong." The United States refuses to condemn the attack.

Maybe we should also request that Palestinians stop strapping bombs to themselves and blowing themselves up on public buses and in coffee shops. This is an ugly war, and by no means is it one sided.
