North Korea welcomes The Rejection Of Impeachment of South Korean leader Current rating: 0
16 May 2004
SEOUL: North Korea has welcomed the reinstatement of South Korean President Roh Moo-Hyun, urging South Koreans to launch a battle against US troops.
Roh was reinstated last week after South Korea's constitutional court rejected his impeachment by the National Assembly, ending two months of political paralysis.

The Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland, a cabinet-level state organization in the communist country, said the court's decision was a public judgment against pro-US conservative forces.

"The decision ... was prompted by the South Korean people. This clearly shows again that the US colonial rule and pro-American flunkyist act of the conservative forces can no longer work in South Korea," the committee said in a statement issued through Pyongyang's Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).

It was North Korea's first response to the court's ruling.

The impeachment triggered a public backlash, helping the ruling Uri Party win an overall majority in elections last month. The comeback of Roh, who advocates engagement with the Stalinist state, is expected to fuel improved inter-Korean ties.

"The US plot to set up a pro-American conservative government in South Korea went bankrupt. The reality shows that the time when the US and pro-American conservative forces hold sway is coming to an end," the committee said.

North Korea has accused the opposition party of supporting the presence of 37,000 US troops stationed here under a mutual defense pact and Washington's hardline stance against Pyongyang.

"The US should squarely see the trend of public sentiment in South Korea, behave with discretion, put an end to its domination and interference in south Korea and withdraw its aggression troops from it at once," the committee said.

In a separate commentary, North Korea's government newspaper, Minju Joson, demanded South Korea cancel its decision to send troops to Iraq at Washington's request.

"The South Korean political parties should clearly face up to the trend of the times and make a right choice ... and discontinue the moves to send troops to Iraq," the newspaper said.

Indeed, North Korea...there is a Nation that the world should look to for advice. Please ouline exactly what qualities North Korea has that you believe make them someone that America, and the world, should listen to, honor the judgement of, or endeavor to emulate???
