ILIR White Trash Party |

Students of the Unversity of Illinois at Champaign - Urbana's Institue of Industrial and Labor Relations recently held a "white trash party."
Sources tell me that guests to this party were asked to dress "white trash" and that there was a contest for best costume.
This party was advertised on an ILIR listserve and ILIR administrators were only concerned that the institute listserve was used to publicize the affair.
I've heard that 75% of ILIR graduates go on to work for management. As someone who prbably ranks rather high on these students' scales of white trashiousity, I shudder to think that they may have the ability to hire and fire workers based on their classist prejudices.
If they are so biased against white trash, may they also be biased against slackers or any other group that doesn't fit their idea of good workers?
Are labor studies and human resource students at other universities holding such soirees? If you have any information about such events, please reply as I hope to feature this topic on the "Illinois Labor Hour" and other progressive media.
By the way, the ILIR graduation ceremony is 3pm, May 15, at Wolher Hall.
"The Illinois Labor Hour" is every Saturday from 11am - noon on WEFT, 90.1, FM. |
