Strong Showing by Indybay- Unique and Hard-To-Find Coverage

Their coverage of Iraq is amazing - especially when you consider that most of the reports and photos are from independent journalists who are literally some of the only journalists left in Iraq - or at least Fallujah. I like that the site is constantly updated and that it obviously has a strong link to the community, in terms of information about everything from legal situations to local government that you won't get anywhere else. Indymedia is a tool in general, but the Bay Area IMC has proven to be the one that most often gets picked up by the global syndication site. My only request would be to see more non-activist news.

Indybay.org rocks!

Indybay.org continues to be one of the best indymedia sites around the world, having built its reputation over the years as an invaluable resource for those seeking non-corporate, independent news and embodying the DIY principle of "Don't hate the media. Become the media".

Everyone Can Be Involved at Indybay.org

That's what I really love about this site (and Indymedia sites, in general)... It doesn't tell you what to do. It doesn't talk AT you.

It is interactive. YOU can post your own stories there; get your message out. You can see photos of real action going on in the streets, not just a happy photo-op.

I guess for me, I'm really tired of essentially single-issue, top-down organizations... even if I agree with the issue.

Indybay.org is decentralized, non-hierarchical, and it features a broad spectrum of issue areas. And if there is a story that I think should be there, but isn't, then I go find/write it and post it myself!

I love it.

Of the five nominees in this category, I felt that this one provided the most opportunity to easily explore its contents in areas that might be of interest to me.
