Busted!: A Citizens' Guide to Police Encounters
7 pm
Tuesday, April 20
124 Burrill Hall
407 S. Goodwin
Urbana, IL |
Have you ever wondered when a police officer has the right to search your
vehicle? Have you felt that you were taken advantage of by the police
because you weren't aware of your rights? Then you should come out to the
showing of Busted!: A Citizens' Guide to Police Encounters at 7 pm this
Tuesday in 124 Burrill Hall.
Learn how to protect yourself with your
constitutional rights when approached by a police officer! Then, Peter Christ
of Law Enforcement Against Prohibition will speak about the effects of the
Drug War on law enforcement, prison populations, and minority communities.
He then will take any questions that the audience may have about his lecture
or on the film. So come out and learn how to protect yourself, because if you
don't, who will? |

Whene'er you hear, "The poor must pay,"
Then disobey, Jack, disobey!
When "might makes right" is what they say,
Then disobey, Jack, disobey!
When civil rights are in the gray
And the boss takes away
The eight-hour day,
It's FREEDOM urges me to say,
Hey, disobey, Jack, disobey!
When riot gas and pepper spray
and billy clubs are on display,
then get your ass out in the fray,
and disobey, Jack, disobey!
I could go on like this all day
to you who bow and scrape and pray,
and throw your civil rights away--
But that, I fear, would just be grist.
My point I hope you haven't missed:
Why don't you see, Jack? Aren't you pissed?
Rise up! Revolt, Jack! Think! Resist! |

How does it feel to go your whole life upset at anything and everything? If things are soooooo bad here, why stay? If the laws are soooooo hard to obey, go live in anarchy in some other country. I've managed to go my whole life up to this point without getting hit in the head with a billy club. |

Gee, I often ask myself that about trolls like chuck and Jack Ryan. Of course, at Indymedia, we are much more tolerant of those who differ with us than they seem to expect us to be subject to if it was up to them (and thank goodness, it's not...there's that thing called the Constitution, but I digress), but it sure seems to be a point of hypocrisy for the "Love it or leave it" crowd when they continously natter on about that exact point here...
and then don't bother leaving ;>) |

even though jack might be a bit of a troll on this board... he has a very good point...
if i break the law... i am smart enough to know its my own damn fault...
and now the campus pot-heads want ot put on a seminar to teach you how to effectivly break the law |

Exactly, one need only look at the "Hidden Articles"' section to see how tolerant the left is of an opposing view.

I apologize, I will attempt to be more tolerant of your viewpoints. I am just trying to understand how consistently breaking the laws seems to keep popping up with every item you disagree with. I think being offended becomes an obsession with some people. What will be the next flavor of the month be after removing the chief and infuriating the overwhelming majority of students and alumni? |
