If it's any comfort to you, we drove a projected super-Wal-Mart out of Taos, NM. So far. We already have a regular W-M, and a super is just 45 minutes down the road. We need a super W-M like a fish needs a bicycle. Our community DOES galvanize itself, particularly on quality-of-life issues. W-M realized it was going to be in court for the next 20 years, so desisted. They MAY be back, but not any time soon. New Mexico is a right-to-work state, so union activity is very limited and restricted. However, it's not totally hopeless. Even this small town (4700 in the town limits) has two supermarkets of three organized, hospital, municipal workers and teachers. |
