Tuesday, March 16 is election day.
While elections are only a potentially partial soultion to the problems that bedevil our community, our campus, our state, and our nation, your vote does count. |
For voting in the Illinois primary, Tuesday, March 16 is election day. There are several key votes on the ballot that need your input. Please take time to go VOTE! Polls are open from 6 am - 7
pm.
You can find your polling place and view your ballot by going to:

On the University of Illinois campus, it's time to retire the "Chief" and you can help. Voting is Tuesday _and_ Wednesday, online. The following message from the Progressive Resource/Action Cooperative lays out the issue and provides a link to vote. Remember that ALL students, including graduate students who are most impacted by the academic problems that the "Chief" causes the University, are eligible to vote.
Please vote to *ELIMINATE* "Chief Illiniwek" in the March 16-17th Illinois Student Government referendum!! The referendum asks:
Do you support Chief Illiniwek as the Symbol
of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign? ____ Yes __X___ No
Vote NO!
The Progressive Resource/Action Cooperative (PRC) has opposed this referendum from its inception because we strongly believe that the voices that matter most on this issue are the voices of Native peoples in Illinois, not a popularity contest among non-Native students on the UIUC campus. However, given that the referendum is happening, we are encouraging all students to vote against the "Chief" to demonstrate the size and strength of the anti-"Chief" movement on our campus.
Voting NO to the "Chief" is voting NO to racial stereotyping, and YES to Native American rights and self-determination.
You can vote online Tues and Wed at http://www2.uiuc.edu/election/vote.
For more information on the "Chief," visit PRC's Questions and Answers page at http://www.prairienet.org/prc/anti.html/qa.html. Or email us at prc (at) prairienet.org.
Sincerely,
The PRC
p.s. You will also find a referendum to support an increase funding for the cultural houses on campus. Please support this increased funding for the cultural houses and programs. |
