The Manifest Liberation Front, a Bloomington-based group, plans to kill a pig in response to citizen inaction regarding the ongoing occupation of Iraq. |
This is the second communique from the Manifest Liberation Front. We are conscious citizens who have become disheartened and outraged by the actions of our government and the inaction of our people. In recognition of the anguish we have caused and the violence that has been instigated against our brothers and sisters in Iraq and Afghanistan, we will summarily execute a live pig on the Quad of Illinois State University. This public act will be timed in coordination with the first anniversary of the invasion of Iraq.
On Wednesday, March 17th at noon, we will slaughter the pig. We will force our fellow citizens to recognize and confront the horror and reality of violence. The war has been and always will be at home. The anger and confusion in response to the first communique is minscule compared to the anger and confusion experienced by our fellow beings in Iraq. We are responsible for our government's actions! Consider March 17th, 2004, a call to action.
United,

Given that the only info I've seen on this group has been a couple of notices posted here on UC IMC, I can't help but wonder two things. First, is this simply a satirical provocation? Second, if this is actually a act that someone intends to carry out, then whoever is organizing it has absolutely no place to criticize the actions of others, such as Bush, by virtue of their willingness to carry out a rather brutal display of political naivety. In other words, sometimes you hate something so badly you become like your enemy. |
Agreed. |

Whether the action in question turns out to be real or imaginary, that's just about the worst idea I've ever heard. Farm animals can't cause military invasions, so why take out your frustrations on them? Pigs are cute, they're smart - in fact, I bet the poor pig in question is smarter than whoever came up with the idea to slaughter it in public.
Just remind me to never go near an action involving you people. |

wow... you sound like a bunch of college students that are mad the world doesn't agree with your every whim... so your gonna kill a pig... you are all freaking smart.
if no one is listening to you know... how is killing a pig gonna accomplish anything but getting some blood on the quad? whether or not public opinion supports your views is irrelevant...
and that the heck is the M.L.F? you sound like some bored college students who want to raise hell and use big grown-up words like "communique" to make yourselves cool... wonderful |

I go to ISU, and have heard alot about this, people are talking, and I've been told that flyers are being handed out on the quad.
General perception is that they will amass a big crowd, and then say something to the effect of "you all got upset about killing a pig, but not about humans dieing in Iraq, WTF is wrong with you"
Of course, most people will be there just for the hell of it or stopped by when walking to class, so their "statement" won't really be correct |
