I received in the mail yesterday, an official looking letter (but obviously junk mail, as indicated by the pre-paid bulk-mail postage), from the/some "President of the University of IL..."
I decided to open it, and the envelope was stuffed to overflowing with several pages of landfill fodder promoting "supplemental life insurance" !
Is there any better indicator, that our once glorious institution is now nothing but a shameless, money-grubbing, multi-million-dollar business?
Even "the president's" name is for sale! I expect to see him/her hawking Pepsi alongside "the Chief" next week. Maybe 1% tuition discounts, if you'll promise (in writing, of course) to wear an Atkins-Diet T-shirt on campus every Monday and Friday.
Heck, we could just dress "the Chief" up in a dietician's lab coat with an Atkins logo on the back, and combine the brand promotion!
