Commentary :: Iraq
We Will Lose The War On Terror Current rating: 1
02 Jan 2004
My thoughts on the current war.
I've come to the conclusion that unless something changes, America is actually going to lose the war on terrorism.

Shocking comment, perhaps (I hear a few of you raging in the background), but hear me out.

The terrorists believe in their cause. A truly ignoble and evil cause, to be sure, but they believe in it enough to want to die for it.

America, in general, does not. There are our men and women serving in the armed forces that are willing to lay down their lives for us all, and God bless them. But America in general is obsessed with trivia.

There once was a time when America was not a self-obsessed, self-absorbed, fat, lazy, ignorant bunch. The founding fathers did not anguish over whether Europe would recognize the new nation as legitimate or not. Andrew Jackson was not careful to steer a course that would ensure he did not upset ethnic minorities. Abraham Lincoln did not ask himself if preserving the Union was worth it. Theodore Roosevelt never asked anything of anyone else he would not do himself. FDR did not wonder if there was enough money in the budget to fight WW2. JFK did not worry how the Space Program would affect the stock market. Ronald Reagan did not question whether or not American ideals were greater than those held by the Soviet Union.

Lewis and Clark, Orville and Wilbur Wright, Neil Armstrong, Martin Luther King Jr, just to take half a dozen, did not ask the question "Why?", but the question "Why not?".

I'm sorry, but there is more to America and more to life than us fretting about how many carbs we ate during breakfast, how our 401k is doing, how many cloroflorocarbons have been released into the atmosphere because of our hairspray, or the current status of campaign finance reform.

Any calls for sacrifice, even after 9/11, whether financial or social, are met with catcalls.

Most of the media is full of nattering nabobs of negativism, perverse pettifoggery of puffery, and craven cowards of calamity.

Another American soldier died, the stock market went down today, the situation in Iraq sucks, we're all going to die and why you personally have high cholesterol. And that's just the lead stories on Entertainment Tonight.

The Left apparently cares nothing about anything other than regaining political power and will stop at nothing to do so. They do not care what tools they use, what lies they tell, what words they twist, how they damage the electoral process - indeed they have lost sight of their original goals.

The Right, who should by all rights be outraged, is only outraged as far is it does not inconvenience them. Don't take an unpopular position, don't force a filibuster, don't call the Democrats on their lies and bluster, don't defend the President, don't take to the God damn streets.

Where the Hell is the passion, where is the conviction, where is the righteousness, where is the steadfastness, where is the damn mojo, people?

Those individuals who took to the seas in the Mayflower, who survived the horror of slave ships, who trekked westward over each new horizon - America has never been a nation of people who shirked from challenges or waited on others for approval.

We're becoming soft, decadent, sluggish, and selfish. If we don't have the conviction and courage, as a collective people, to defeat a bunch of rag-tag terrorists from the Third World who eat less well than the family dog, then there is no hope.

Dear Brian Buchanan,

Wow! pretty negative commentary here. I think that by coming to this site once too many times, you make the misguided assumption that these people actually matter. They represent only 2 to 3 percent of the overall population. They are generally cheered by your statement "We will lose the War on Terror". They want us to lose.

As for our enemies being willing to die for the cause and for Americans being Soft, fat and lazy, the same was said about us prior to WWII. Indeed, the Japanese were perfectly willing to die for Hirohito. Many Germans fought until the death in an effort to defend Hitler. These same soft, lazy, Americans breed from a capitalistic system defeated them at the same time.

The Soviet Union made the same underestimation of the American system and of the sons and daughters that it produced. Ronald Reagan thought differently and put into place a strategy which defeated them.

Today we see our troops march through the center of Bagdad in 15 days. While our liberation continues not without loss of American life, we, behind our steadfast and courageous leader, will continue to score success after success.

Our war on Terror is already paying dividends. We have had no attacks against our homeland in quite sometime. We have pulled the single biggest WMD from a hole in the ground cowering in fear just days after the big sissy calls on his countrymen to die for the cause. Arabs saw this and took it for the humiliation that it was.

After years of sanctions, the terrorist nation Libya suddenly gets religion and virtually surrenders their nation to the US and Great Britian. Don't for a moment think that this action was not the result of our War on Terror. The Libyan leader, got the message loud and clear and could easily picture himself being the one pulled from ground and having his sorry infested head searched for lice.

Iran, may crumble from within. Our support for the youth movement will finally free that country from the "Middle Age" leadership that they currently must endure.

Finally, after years of apeasement by the Clinon Administration and actually attempting to furnish Nuclear Power to the complete loon in North Korean, they now are going to allow inspectors back into their country and negotiations are underway.

Yes we have a long way to go and more hardship will have to be endured. Final Victory in the War on Terror is not in question. Unless of course, the majority of opinion and strategy on this site is "God Forbid" ever implemented.

Keep the Faith and don't let these nutbags discourage you.

Mostly I ignore Jack's delusional ramblings on his personal alienation from nearly everything in our diverse society, but I cannot let this one pass. Jack, tell me, you must mean all those American families grieving for the loss of their loved ones killed in the service in Iraq since we occupied Baghdad are just some sort of "liberal" plot to undermine our national security?

That certainly explains why Bush has yet to attend a single funeral for those killed in action, because you imply that the idea that anyone dying over there is just the figment of the imagination of those at Indymedia.

Now if they could just get the Pentagon to quit announcing all these fake casualties (http://cryptome.org/mil-dead-iqw.htm), the truth as seen by those few like Jack who think they know they know reality ( when they are really living in a fantasy world) could be preserved. Jack is totally blind to the cost to our nation, let alone the Iraqis, of Bush's folly.

Our readers will have to judge for themselves who is really the "nutbag," a tiresome charge that Jack often trots out when he's at a loss for any more substantive, but still irrelevant, insult agaisnt the users of Indymedia.

Dear RA,

As the undisputed leader of the "Nutbags", I salute your courage in attempting to take me on. First, no one disputes that we are still suffering casualties as a result of the war on terror. It is equally undisputed that our troops marched farther, faster, and with the least amount of combat casualties on our march on Iraq than any other military campaign in history. This despite you and your appeasement loving friends, rooting against our boys every step of the way.

Saddam adopted the Vietnamese strategy of trying to discourage the American people through a guerilla war. He was indeed encouraged to see the weak American's protesting in the streets and ordered increased attacks on our troops as a result.

After twelve years and 17 UN resolutions, our boys finally dragged his sorry ass out of a hole in the ground. The same fate will happen to Osama and his band of bare hand ass wipers.

As for not attending the funeral of our fallen soldiers, did it ever occur to you that the families of our heroes may not wish to make this event a media spectacle? I am certain that this President takes each loss to heart every bit as much as you and your friends cheer each American death in the field.

"Real American" please. How about we come up with something a little more accurate such as: Neville Chamberlin II, or Uncle Joe Stalin or even something simple like traitor. Something that would be a little more fitting.

The question was posed are we winning or losing the war on Terror. You, like always, failed to respond to the question and your hopeful wish for an American defeat can not dispute the fact that we are winning on all fronts. From our booming economy to our military victories we have and will continue to make the world safer. Terrorist leaders around the world are getting the message either by force or by example, why can't you?

Jack Ryan bloviated on:
"You, like always, failed to respond to the question..."

In the midst of your six paragraphs of verbal diarrhea, Jack, you utterly failed to even begin addressing the question of is the Pentagon or is it you who's lying when you said, "...our liberation continues not without loss of American life..."

You're in such a hurry to troll this website, you've even stop making the little bit of sense that you accidentally stumbled upon on occasion here.

So tell us, please, who is the liar, you or the Pentagon?

BTW, you appear to have thrown in the towel on your campaign for Senate as a Republican from Illinois if you've got all kinds of time to waste pissing into the wind here.

Dear Shit for Brains a.k.a. Real American,

You accuse me of not addressing your pentagon point when I clearly acknowledged that we are still incurring casualties in Iraq. Can you read? What public school did you attend?

Anyway, the article was: We will lose the war on terror? I stated that not only are we not losing, but we are winning and gave evidence to support it. Of course you jump in with someone else's thoughts.

Take Care and good luck on your G.E.D. attempt.
