Green Tea Topic - Should Ralph Nader Run For President? Current rating: 0
11 Dec 2003
Should Ralph Nader Run for president? We will discuss this at the next Green Tea.
The next Green Tea topic will be should Ralph Nader Run for president?

We will discuss the pros and cons. Will this help Bush? Will this hurt liberal Democrats? Instead of an all-out run for president, should he only run in states where he wouldn't hurt the Democrats chances. Should the Greens instead run Peter Camejo the California candidate for Governor. And what if Dennis Kucinich wins?

Check out http://naderexplore04.org

And tea will be served!

All are welcome. Green Teas are on the third Wednesday of the month (Dec. 17th) at 7:00 PM. They are held at the Urbana-Champaign Independent Media Center at 218 W. Main St., Suite 110 Urbana. This is between Strawberry Fields and The Office bar. We meet in the middle meeting room / art gallery.

A glancing look at the history of third party candidates will show that they inevitably help the candidate they disagree with the most. But hey, if it means you get to have a tea party, then go ahead. If I can be treated to more loony behavior on Jay Leno, then knock yourselves out. It's fun to watch.

a glancing look at the history of third party candidates will show that they pushed the real agendas that have progressed on behalf of the people in the united states -- even if they didn't win: legislation and executive action on civil rights, woman's suffrage, labor rights, etc all happened in strong correlation to movements of disenfranchised peoples (read: people don't vote/don't identify with the status quo in the political process) and third party canddates -- even if they lost. the new deal is an example as well.

GO RALPH GO!

(hell, the racist sonofabitch Buchanan too -- we need real spectrum represented, and OPEN THE DEBATES. it's not a democracy and no "Democrat" will win fairly without facing down Ralph and Pat and others in real debates.)

In a word, no. But in general, I love Nader and everything he stands for! [Unsafe at Any Speed] helped make me who I am today. I'm very much looking forward to the way he'll surely change the tone of the upcoming race.

I can't wait to see him start swinging at the status quo, in the mainstream media. He brought the house down at Foellinger, didn't he! Had to schedule a 2nd showing to meet demand, remember?

Really? Like George Wallace? Or Strom Thurmond? Thier candidacies happened in negative correlations to movements of disenfrancised people. And in this day and age in the years after the civil rights movement, there is quite a bit of difference between "disenfranchised people" and deadbeats who can't be bothered to show up at the polls once every couple of years; your remarks read like an apology for doing just that.

Looks like Ralph isn't going to run as a Green, but may run as an independant, thereby splitting the vote of the eight guys in Madison, WI who vote for the Green party - which, when you think about it, is absolutely hillarious.

Can you be serious? Please inform us how GW's agenda changed because of Ralph Nader. The only agenda Nader helped push in ’00 was that of the war mongers and big business.

An open letter to Mr. Nader,

Dear Ralph,

As a stauch conservative, I am asking you to run. The Green Party has a significant following in the enclave of Urbana, Illinois. I am certain you could win 50% of the vote. 60% if you could get the people with nose rings and pierced nipples. You simply need to show them how to operate a voting machine. Remember Florida?

Anyway, as a conservative who currently controls every branch of government, I have a small problem in that I need cloture in the Senate. You see, that great patriot and not so good driver, Ed Kennedy is preventing us from capturing the final piece of the puzzle. Of course, I am referring to 60 Senate seats. With your continued help, I am sure that we can get there. If not you, how about Dennis Kunich? Surely, there are very few people who will remember that his policies nearly sank the City of Cleveland. I am fully confident that you and your policies, if ever elected, can do the same for the U.S. as Kucinich did for the City of Cleveland which is only now recovering.

If you are running, I will hereby send you $ 100.00 bucks right now. Again I ask, how can I help?

Anon, "Unsafe at any Speed" changed your life? That's sad. What did you have against the Corvere anyway?

Your Friend,

Jack

except in the state of Illinois---governor, all state office save one, and the legislature are all "controlled" by Democrats. And then, of course, there is Urbana...where Democrats "control" the city council.

the Jack says:

Perhaps Anon's problem with the "Corvair" is that they were deathtraps that burst into flames...? Course, with an engine in the trunk right next to the gas tank, the Corvair should have turned initiated some head scratching from the start.... But if you have no malice against the car, I suggest you buy one for yourself and see. They are available for a hefty price...death is apparently a collector's item these days...

Hey it's my old friend "Five".

Always a pleasure to hear from you. You're right it is spelled corvair. I am sorry. It was really before my time.
You are also right that Illinois has become the an oasis for liberal thought in this land of opportunity. Perhaps you and I will meet waving goodbye to yet another business fleeing Illinois for safer more friendly confines in say Georgia where a Republican won the governship for the first time since reconstruction. I'll look forward to it.

Jack

I would love to see Nader run. I especially love hearing the Leftists whine that votes were stole away by him. I laugh heartily every time I hear it. Hell, I'm still laughing from the last time he ran. Hee Hee Hee... Oh my, what a world we live in!

God I hope Ralph Nader doesn't run again. Look at the results last time. I am sure Bush would like nothing more. With Bush's environmental record. do you really think he would draw Bush supporters? It can only hurt the democrats in this race and the environment amoung all the otheer horrors this administration has given us. The democrats need to win, not be nudged to the left to lose. Does he have his head in the sand? Please, Mr. Nader, don't spli9t the vote again!

Sincerely, Chris Wriggins
