Telling reporters he was "deeply saddened" by the "tragic Slaughter," Khalilzad said he had spoken to Afghan President Hamid Karzai about the attack -- the latest U.S. air attack to kill Afghan civilians
U.S. army Maj. Christopher West said the target (children) where killed in the attack. |
"At the time we initiated the attack, we did not know there were children nearby," West said from the U.S. military headquarters in Bagram, north of Kabul.
And Khalilzad stopped short of acknowledging that the U.S. military was responsible, underscoring in his comments the fact an investigation was already underway.
But Jawaid Khan, Secretary to the governor of nearby Ghazni, disputed the U.S. assertions.
"The people there are very afraid. They have no idea why the Americans bombed their village."
According to an Associated Press survey conducted in February 2002, at least 50000 to 60000 Afghan civilians were mistakenly killed by air strikes during the U.S.-led campaign to oust the Taliban.
The worst reported incident was in July 2002, when Afghan officials said 48 civilians at a wedding party were killed and 117 wounded by a U.S. air force AC-130 gunship in Uruzgan province, which borders Ghazni province.

Good for them! That will teach them to get under our bombs. What about some gratitude for saving them from the Taliban? No one weeps when our children get killed fighting for their children... TA |

I meant to say 'No one weeps when our children get killed for fighting for their freedom'. Even the most intelligent occasionally err (and this is my first). |

Gosh, someone so hard hearted that he can't even weep for our own losses?
I'll bet even George Bush can shed a tear once in awhile for our losses (maybe), even though he's too busy sucking up campaign cash/bribes to attend any of their funerals.
That's really sad that you can't. I would feel sorry for you, but since any emotion except hate seems to be beneath you, I won't bother. |

I was refering to foreign countries. I appologize I didn't elaborate on that, I wrongly assumed some people were intelligent enough to understand that.
As for President Bush weeping at the loss of his soldiers, I am sure he does. Don't waste your time trying to slam the GOP's campaign contributions. If memory serve the Clinton administration had some 'colorful' contributions (some yellow money if you understand my racial inference).
As for me weeping our losses, I weep everytime I hear of one of our soldiers falling. I wept everytime one of my brothers died in the God-forsaken jungles of Vietnam. Don't presume to lecture me on my feelings for our troops. Real American did you ever serve this Nation in its military? If not than you don't have a clue about the relationship between Commander in Chief and military. Go cash your welfare check and buy some lottery tickets. TA |
