A call to the Illinois-American Water Company's service line revealed that the boil order has been lifted. Take all that bottled water back to the store!
The corporation's website doesn't make any mention of the boil order, but it does say a lot about what a wonderful corporation owns our water supply.
"In 2003, American Water became part of RWE AG, one of the world’s largest utility groups and the third largest provider of water and wastewater services in the world. With the support of RWE and its water subsidiary Thames Water, American Water is well positioned to meet the demand for investments that increase water system reach and capacity, preserve precious water supplies, and deliver water of unquestioned quality to the individuals and business that rely on us."

What was the cause of the boil order?
Typically cities who have privately run water departments have more boil orders. RWE/Thames is notorious for really screwing up peoples water systems. They institute hard core shut off policies, and are slow to fix problems. Do they do this there?
We are fighting privatization attempts in the city of Detroit, MI. Our current water director is a former Thames executive. It would be great to find out what is happening there and spread the fight against water privatization. Email us at stopperrier (at) yahoo.com |

Local news outlets have done a couple more stories about this, including a radio report on WILL-AM by Jim Meadows, yesterday (I think), and this article in the News-Gazette:
• Meeting on water episode set
CHAMPAIGN – Representatives of the cities of Champaign and Urbana plan to meet next week with Illinois American Water officials to review the circumstances behind the unprecedented systemwide boil order that affected residents of Champaign, Urbana, Savoy and several surrounding communities last weekend.
A meeting is planned for 9 a.m. Dec. 11 at Illinois American offices and will include representatives of city government from Champaign and Urbana. Illinois Power representatives also have been invited to the private meeting.
