Myself and several other activists from around Illinois are heading out to Iowa to encourage supporters of Dennis Kucinich to attend the Iowa Caucuses on January 19th. We will be using Democratic voting lists and going door to door to drum up additional supporters who will be encouraged to attend the caucuses as well. We are scheduling 3 weekend trips: December 6th and 7th, December 13th and 14th, and January 3rd and 4th.
We are in need of drivers and riders who are willing to help us canvas Iowa. Volunteers have the option of camping out in the campaign office for free. Alternatively, Motel 6 has rooms for $30, and multiple people typically share rooms.
I will be driving my own van from Orland Park/Aurora, however Eric Angell is coordinating drivers and riders from Urbana, Bloomington-Normal, and the rest of the Chicagoland area.
Volunteer support is and has been the lifeblood of Dennis's campaign, as he has always refused to take any corporate money. This is a true grass roots movement, and is in need of activist support.
Being the kickoff state for the Primary season, the Iowa caucuses have been traditionally held as the litmus test for a candidate's performance. With the virtual media blackout of Dennis's campaign (even progressive magazines such as Mother Jones and In These Times cover him only superficially), it is essential that he receives a strong showing in Iowa to force mainstream media to acknowledge his platform, if not his chance for victory.
Known as the Peace Candidate, Dennis has a 3 step plan to bring our troops home from Iraq, and has submitted a bill to repeal major portions of the Patriot Act. He also pledges to cancel NAFTA and the WTO, and has spoken out against the FTAA and the School of the Americas. His platform also calls for free, quality education from preschool through college, and universal healthcare. To find out more, consult his Platform Webpage.
If you have further questions about volunteering as a driver or rider, please email Eric at eric-angell(at)comcast.net, or phone him at 1-847-202-0034, and he will set you up with people in the area to go with.
Note: I am also looking to link up with political, non-profit and activist organizations who find their goals in line with Dennis’s platform. Currently, the Indymedia Center is the only way I know to get a hold of potential supporters. If anyone is in contact with organizations on campus or in the area, please email me directly at healthadvantage(at)comcast.net.
