Show up on the 4th at our meeting place of California & Coler in Urbana around 12:45pm. |
The Prairie Green Party would like to invite any interested bodies to march in the 4th of July parade with us. Here's the scoop: We will have a banner reading "The Prairie Green Party." We invite you to make a sign of your choice to carry in the parade which would reflect one of our 10 Key Values (listed below). We ask that you wear a green, or somewhat green, shirt, and if possible, make your sign on white posterboard with green lettering. Laurel Prussing is hosting a picnic afterwards for marchers in our group, so if that's not incentive enough, I don't know what is.
We will be meeting on July 3, time & place TBA, to make signs. However, you are more than welcome to just show up on the 4th at our meeting place of California & Coler in Urbana around 12:45pm. It's about a 2-mile walk; ending at 4th & Peabody. If you have any questions, send me an email or call at 337-0334.
Laurel would like a headcount for the picnic, so if you think you're going to make it, please let me know with an email reply Thanks, Nancy

Updated comments: Here is the latest schedule for all the Green Party goings-on related to the parade:
Tuesday, evening, July 3rd: 7:30 pm: meet at Laurel Prussing's to make signs. She has old election yard signs we can use the backs of to make our signs. We are using green markers on the white signs, so if you have any green markers please bring them. We will also be stapling the signs to wooden stakes left from the Nader campaign, so if any of you have any sitting in your garage, please bring them.
If you aren't going to the sign-making party and plan on making your own signs, please try to use green marker on white cardboard to help us look more cohesive.
One other suggestion for those not showing up for sign making party & plan on making their own signs: we're trying to be as positive as possible with our slogans for the signs, so please check out our 10 Key Values (thanks to Mike Lehman, they're on the IMC website), for suggestions. We're making signs that say "Grassroots Democracy" and "Ecological Wisdom," things that go along with our 10 key values are fine, such as "Living Wage," "People before Profits." We're trying to avoid things like "Kill Bush" or "Down with Republicans", things we'd like to say but probably won't make many friends saying.
Thanks!
Wednesday, July 4th, 12:30pm: meet at the corner of California & Coler wearing a green shirt, if possible. Bring your sign, wear good walking shoes, a hat (green, if possible:-) ), and bring sunscreen. Milt will have water, coffee, & restroom facilities (whew!), and he's also offered to get bagles. I would also recommend bringing a sandwich to eat or eating a pretty big meal beforehand, since the parade starts at 1pm & we have to march a couple of miles. So we're looking at about 2-2 1/2 hours outside during lunch hours.
Afterwards, Laurel Prussing has generously offered to host a picnic for our cadre of immediately after the parade.
