"FARMER'S MARKET FLAG OPINION POLL"

"What does the US flag symbolize to you, other US citizens, and the people of the world?"
Those were the three questions posed to visitors of the A.W.A.R.E. table at the Urbana Farmer's Market the past two weekends. As part of its weekly table display of literature, the US flag, peace flag, and corporate logo flag were flown together at the A.W.A.R.E. booth. Each flag can elicit strong emotions and feelings as well as conflicting values and opinions. Since 9-11 the US flag has come to symbolize many different things to US citizens. Without a doubt the appearance of the US flag is more pervasive and prevalent than in recent decades. So, what better time than during the 4th of July holiday than to engage the public in thoughtful reflection about the flag and to solicit their personal feelings about it.
Following is a summary of the feelings of 153 individuals who took the "Flag Poll". Each participant could choose up to four descriptors for each question. Where numbers don't add up correctly, it simply means some individuals gave no responses. Acknowledging this was not a scientific poll; the results are never the less very intriguing and interesting.
How do your thoughts and feelings of the US flag compare?

sorry to be dense; i don't quite understand the descriptor pairs--were those polled asked to select 4 descriptor *pairs*, and to then vote for or against one of the two items in the pair?

i.e. in question 1:

54 Democracy 19 Globalization

does this mean that 73 people chose this pair, and of those 73, 54 chose 'democracy' over globalization?

There are supposed to be 2 columns. This hasn't translated well to the web here. The two columns have no relationship as far as I know.

I took the poll and it asked individuals to pick four traits under each question.
