I recently watched the TV presentation "What The World Thinks Of America" in Australia.
I acknowledge the limitations of sampling etc, however the acquired results are indicative of global regional attitudes. I am convinced in that the apparent paradoxes in statistics are indicative of the limitations of the exercise, and would have been clarified with further exploration. |
I generally like Americans (but in carefully metered doses). I have American friends, I have observed US military operations first hand, have visited American military installations in the past, as well as having spent some time in the USA. I can state first hand of their generally overwhelmingly inward cultural focus, and was initially appalled at how little the average 'Joe' actually knew about the world historically, politically and even geographically. I distinctly remember a conversation with a pin stripe suited business man from New England, on a trip from Washington to Shady Grove. On answering his question in that I was Australian, he rubbed his chin, squinted and looked at me sideways and said "Australia, lemmee see now, that's next to New Mexico now, aint it?" I can say without hesitation that I have met much better informed and educated Cubans than I have Americans.
The US Economic Military Show
As the default world power, the US needs to look in retrospect. The global disapproval of George Bush Jnr may have to do with the Bush's ‘Union Bank’ past, whose profits derived, ultimately, from laundering Thysson Industrial War Profits which were, in part derived from Nazi slave / death camp labor. Prescott Bush (George Bush Snr’s father) received a massive payoff from German clients shortly after WW2 ended, and used the money to go into politics, and so began the Bush dynasty. This was by no means unique. Between 1932 and 1939 for example, bosses of General Motors poured $30 million into I.G. Farben plants. Ford and Dupont, amongst many others were also implicated as supporting the fascist regimes for the money.
After the war, the US largely exonerated war criminals (despite the Nuremberg and Tokyo trials), in exchange for data and scientists i.e. Project Paperclip, which smuggled ex-Nazi scientists and S.S. officials into the USA and to spy on Russia or develop rocket technology. The Japanese Imperial Army's Unit 731 killed thousands of Chinese and Russians held prisoner in Japanese-occupied Manchuria, in experiments to develop chemical and biological weapons. Yet in autumn of 1945, Macarthur granted them immunity in exchange for their biological research data. Subsequently, the US have even covertly exposed selected US populations to various agents and substances i.e. infecting human subjects with cancer cells, Tuskegee Syphilis Study, The Pellagra Incident, Malaria infections in Chicago, mustard gas experiments on approximately 4,000 servicemen, Program F, administering intravenous doses of radioactive substances to human subjects, etc, ad nauseaum.
In Laos, the CIA airline, Air America, was running opium for Vang Pao and the Hmong during the Vietnam war. Many veterans of CIA drug operations in Asia went on to star in the agency's secret wars in Central America in the 1980s, where the above pattern was repeated. The Nicaraguan contras were partially funded by cocaine operations, smuggled to and from the US on customs-free supply flights. CIA assets in Honduras, Costa Rica, El Salvador and Panama helped facilitate the trade.
On the Industrial front, shortly after midnight on December 3, 1984, methyl isocyanate gas (MIC) leaked from a storage tank sited at a Union Carbide pesticide manufacturing facility in Bhopal India. As it leaked from the tank, the gas drifted across the neighboring communities with devastating consequences. Some 3,800 people died and thousands more were injured as a direct result of exposure to the lethal fumes. To date, no prosecution has resulted.
Many things that the US has recently done are not so clear cut however, i.e. the Echelon system. The UKUSA Agreement forged an alliance in 1948 among five countries--the U.S., Britain, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand--to geographically divvy up SIGINT-gathering responsibilities, with the U.S. as director and main underwriter. Its successor, originally a Cold War tool aimed at the Soviets, ECHELON has been redirected at civilian targets worldwide. In fact, as the European Parliament report noted, political advocacy groups like Amnesty International and Greenpeace were amongst Echelon’s targets. The EU has leveled accusations that the systems resources are being used to promote American business, i.e. Industrial Espionage.
Tomes of documented incontrovertible evidence could be quoted. Suffice it is to say, that the world can generally draw the distinction between the American people, as distinct from American military / economic interests, and has had enough of their self serving Wars on Drugs, Terrorism, etc. Therein lies the crux of the problem. The average 'Joe' cannot. The quality of education, focus of current affairs, and the pervading, almost psychotic sense of patriotism colludes to produce, in large, an ignorant populace, whose total focus is inwards. This serves the current status quo, and a lot of time, money and effort are expended to ensure it continues.
Can we feel safe in assuming the USA has the world's best interests at heart? The American people may overall have the potential. However, benevolence is simply not a word to be found in the military / industrial dictionary. Let's not kid ourselves. We can’t afford to.
I generally feel sorry for Americans, given their proud and hard fought historical and cultural legacy (Declaration of Independence, The Civil War, Articles Of Confederation, the Constitution, Bill Of Rights, etc), and by virtue of American global domination, share such empathy and concerns for the world at large. The American Constitution and Bill Of Rights are undoubtedly one of mankind’s most humane, altruistic and ethical expressions of political aspirations. I can’t help but wonder what Jefferson, Washington, Franklin, Adams or Lincoln, amongst others, would have to say were they alive today.
The American populace really ought to do some serious soul searching and put aside their mindless and undeserved patriotism to a Government and Institutions, which regard their revered constitution with utmost scorn and obvious contempt. They (and the world) need to rediscover the vision and values that made America a great nation, to rediscover true patriotism and pride once again, and as a nation stand squarely on the doctrine of liberty and justice for all. The mindless accumulation of power and capital without scruple, boundaries or any form of constraint is hardly something to aspire to or to be proud of. It is, by definition, inhumane, an antithesis to the spirit, legacy and memory of its founding fathers, and the root cause for much of the world's discontent with the current American Nation.

chapter of the comprehensive Grandfather Economic
Report series of mini-reports with dramatic pictures on critical subjects proving
serious threats facing the economic future of our young, compared to prior generations. Poor
education quality is a major threat to our nation, partly caused by unacceptable teaching

our students come in last on nearly all

students from other nations.'
This author is convinced that those U.S. 8th graders in 1895 had no
trouble matching or exceeding foreign students of their day. Why do we produce less
relative education quality today compared to our own history and compared to foreign
nations?
WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO OUR EDUCATION STANDARDS
COMPARED TO THE PAST? Do we care, or not?
A related issue - - textbooks & teaching methods dumbed-down
- If 200 mathematicians and scientists, including four Nobel Prize recipients and two
winners of a prestigious math prize, the Fields Medal, deplore math teaching methods
saying they are 'horrifyingly short on basics' - should we care?
- If the president of the American Association of Physics Teachers and his review
committee say, 'none of the 12 textbooks used by 85% of middle school students have an
acceptable level of accuracy' - - and that 'honors high school texts are no more difficult
than an eighth grade reader was before World War II.' - - should we care?
- Additionally, are too many teachers of math and science so inadequately educated
in their subject as to be unable to identify error-laden text books and inadequate
teaching methods to keep same out of the classroom? Many make excuses, trying to deflect
blame. What action is being taken to protect students?

Venezuelan Move To Replace US$ With The uro Upsetting Washington More Than Saddam's uro Conversion Last November |

precipitating the US-led action to invade Iraq. Beltway bullies are now said to be angered by Venezuela's decision to barter oil with thirteen other Latin American countries, dealing moves to dollarize South America currencies. Intelligence reports say that while the US was able to pull the wool over the international community and ally with Britain's Blair to bulldoze action against former Iran War ally Hussein, the situation with Venezuela is proving more difficult.
While there has been political pretext to cold-shoulder Chavez Frias and his government for supposed links with Cuba's Castro and Libya's Khadaffi, the United States is loathe to do more than to give subversive support to anti-Chavez elements in Venezuela fighting against the Venezuelan President's domestic war against political and economic corruption which have permeated the South American country for the last half-century.
International finance experts see how the US dollar has been devaluing against the €uro, as important players on the international scene convert to the European currency for more stable transactions ... Russia, China, North Korea and Malaysia have begun holding €uros as important hedgings in their foreign exchange reserves as faith in American greenbacks floats down the river.
CIA and other intel organizations, including Britain's MI5, now fear that the next step is that the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) is about to switch to €uros ... the immediate effect would be a massive devaluation, perhaps sparking of domino-effect devaluations worldwide in US$-related foreign reserves and foreign debt calculations.
With a massive budget deficit, the United States is running scared of latest intel that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is on the brink of converting to the €uros and the opinion held by many OPEC ministers is that the conversion is an inevitability ... the only question left is WHEN?
Arab sources claim that €uro conversion across the Middle and Far East is a rational step to counteract the United States' capacity to "wage further illegal wars (a.k.a. State-sponsored terrorism)" around the world and that any prolonged occupation of Iraq by US/British forces ... and any move towards withdrawal of Iraq from the OPEC cartel ... will only precipitate "remedial action" by like-minded Arab nations to protect their own best interests over Washington's.
A significant step in this direction is that Iran is contemplating switching to the €uro and, as a result, is the latest object of United States undiplomatic interference ... an intel sources says "they are stimulating opposition forces, making covert threats ... the next step is destabilization and quasi-liberation warfare under the pretext of promoting US-style democracy but essentially aimed at maintaining the US dollar as a global transaction currency."

Zionazi Terrorism |

"Living easy, living free
Season ticket on a one-way ride ...
No stop signs, speed limit
Nobody's gonna slow me down
Like a wheel, gonna spin it
Nobody's gonna mess me round
Hey Satan, paid my dues ...
I'm on my way to the promised land
I'm on the highway to hell"
--AC/DC, "Highway to Hell"
During the course of the last several few weeks, noticeably evident in the last few days, we have seen little change with respect to the Mid-east's newfound plan for peace, commonly referred to as the "Road Map." This is largely because, while Palestinians at large are trying to follow it, the Zionazi government has largely ignored it, continuing on its high-speed joyride down the highway to hell. In this respect, a long and noticeable trend continues. And it is time to put this in perspective, once and for all.
With the acceptance of the Road Map by both Zionazis and Palestine, a glimmer of hope initially appeared in the distance. Many felt that, unlike all the other measures before it, like the Oslo Accords, that the Road Map would somehow fare better. In fact, it is going the same route as all others, doomed to failure as a direct result of militant Zionazis , which directly produces the reactionary element among the Palestinians.
In the late 1940s, Zionazis occupied Palestine on the blood of many innocents. Terrorists there ruled the day. The Zionazis sent off letter bombs to many people; Churchill himself barely escaped one. Churchill's good friend, Lord Moyne, was not so lucky; the Zionazis murdered him, causing the terrorist state of the Zionazis not to form until after Churchill was gone. The Zionazi terrorist responsible for Lord Moyne's death also murdered UN mediator Count Folke Bernadotte. Another terrorist bombed the King David Hotel, murdering many innocent Europeans and Arabs who were staying there. In what can only be viewed as Zionazi-sanctioned terrorism, the two leaders responsible for the murders of many innocents through assassinations and bombings--Yitzhak Shamir and Menachem Begin, respectively--would later become prime ministers of the Zionazis. This was to be part of a long, ongoing trend of viciousness, aimed at anyone and everyone who got in Israel's way.
Even since the early days, when Zionazis flagrantly refused to abide by its agreements. For example, the UN only agreed to recognize Israel if the Palestinians who were driven from their homes would be allowed to return. In fact, there were approximately 1 million Palestinians who were forced to live in tents in the desert--with others literally forced to the sea--as a direct result of Zionazi-induced terrorism. A UN resolution was made to this effect, and it has been but one of dozens of others that Israel has carelessly disregarded in its efforts to attain Zionazi supremacy in the area, if not the world.
Zionazis have attacked Palestinians and others in such a ruthless manner that it would have made the Nazis cringe. Their brutality and sheer viciousness knows no bounds. Even America has not escaped Zionazis wrath.
Americans witnessed many of its interests in Egypt bombed, commonly referred to now as the LaVon Affair, which was deliberately done by Zionazis in an effort to pin the blame on Egyptians. It was only due to the ineptness of the Zionist hatemongers that the matter was exposed: An Israeli was literally caught "red handed" with an incendiary device going off that he had been carrying.
Later, Americans witnessed Zionazis murder many innocent Americans on the nigh-defenseless ship the USS Liberty, which was in international waters at the time and had been identified as an American ship by the Zionazis according to their radio reports before the gruesome attack. The Zionazis sought to murder all the Americans aboard with their unmarked planes, then pin the blame on Egypt so that America would attack it. After Zionazis hatemongers put a 40-foot wide hole in the side of the ship and committed other war crimes--they napalmed many innocent and defenseless American soldiers, machine-gunned down life boats, shot missiles and other projectiles at the defenseless crew members aboard the ship--the Zionazis stopped. And the Zionazis only stopped in their unprovoked act of terrorism because its inept terrorists were unable to completely destroy the transmission capabilities of the USS Liberty, enabling a call for help. It was an Act of War on the Zionazis part, an act for wh! ich America's leaders, unduly influenced by Zionazis Fascist plutocratic campaign support, has failed to make the Zionazis accountable.
What has happened since the time of Zionazis bombing the USS Liberty? Zionazis have continued on its bloodstained terrorist campaign. Mohammed Tareq Al-Khadra, who has been a direct witness to much of the brutal hatred exhibited by the Zionazis supremacists, describes this in the book "Zionazi Massacres ... Committed Against the Palestinian Arab People in the 20th Century." He writes,
"Terrorism is considered the main pillar on which the Zionist movement rested for occupying Palestine. Since the 1930s, the Zionist invaders considered that Palestine should be emptied of its indigenous population, the Palestinian Arabs, so that they can establish their artificial entity on the land of Palestine without instances of future obstacles. ... The series of massacres in Palestine did not cease with the creation of the Zionist entity. It, rather, increased in violence and brutality. During that time, the Zionist occupiers perpetrated many grisly massacres against our people, rendering homeless hundreds of thousands of them."
This book then documents literally hundreds of such massacres committed by the Zionist hatemongers. "Al-Quds Massacre--29 December 1947. The Irgun terrorist gang threw a barrel full of explosives near Bal Al-Amood in Jerusalem, killing 14 Arabs and injuring 27.... Al Quds Massacre--30 December 1947. The Irgun terrorist gang hurled a bomb from a fast moving car, killing 11 Arabs.... Balad El-Sheikh Massacre--31 December 1947 to 1 January 1948. On New Year's Eve, a joint force composed of the First Battalion of the Palmach and of the Carmeli Brigade led by Chaim Avinoam attacked the village, killing 60 Arabs.... Jaffa Massacre--4 January 1948. Stern Zionist gang threw a bomb at a crowded square in Jaffa, killing 15 and injuring 98.... The Massacre of the 'Old Government House' in Jaffa. On 4 January 1948, the Irgun Zionist gang placed a car filled with explosives adjacent to the Old Government House. The blast destroyed the building and everyone in its vicinity. Thirty Arab! s were murdered, others injured...."
The list goes on. Later, it becomes like a diary of who died in unchecked Zionist atrocities. One day after another, it lists many of those who have been murdered, hundreds upon hundreds of such incidents. Take the date 15 November 2000, for instance:
"Today, the Zionist army and police killed eleven Palestinians:
1.) Khalil Abdul-Nasser Atallah, a 10-year-old child from Nablus;
2.) Muhammad Khater Al-Ajla, a 13-year-old child from the Shuja'iyya quarter of Gaza. He was shot in the head at Mintar crossing;
3.) Nasser Muhammad Sharafi, a 15-year-old child from Gaza, was shot in the head at Mintar crossing;
4.) Jaddou' Manee' Abul-Kabbash, a 16-year-old from Sammou/Hebron, was shot in the chest;
5.) Ibrahim Abdul-Raoof Ju-eidi, a 15-year-old child from Qalquilya, was shot in the chest;
6.) Ahmad Sameer Bassal, a 17-year-old from Al-Hawa/Gaza, was shot in the heart at Mintar crossing;
7.) Fathi Awdeh Salem Obeid, a 23-year-old from Tulkarm camp, was shot in the chest;
8.) Samer Khairi Khadr, a 29-year-old from Kafir Rumman/Tulkarm, was shot in the chest by an Israeli policeman;
9.) Abdul-Hafez Muhammad Azoof, a 20-year-old from Jericho, was shot in the chest;
10.) Ahmad Saeed Ahmad Sha'ban, an 18-year-old from Jalama camp/Jenin, was shot in the abdomen;
11.) Muhammad Obeid, a 22-year-old from Gaza, was killed."
Day after day, Palestinians witness such graphic violence. Well over 2,000 have been killed in the past two years. If Palestine had the same population as America and the same percentage of those murdered held true, there would be over 200,000 people murdered. In fact, these unchecked murders there effect all Palestinians; all have been directly effected by having their loved ones or friends murdered or, at the least, injured.
In response to this, many Palestinians have given up all hope. They have become suicide bombers. Not many people in America approve of their actions; I personally do not. And the same might be said there with respect to these suicide bombers: No one wants to see their children die.
But we must ask ourselves how these suicide bombers can exist? The answer is not a pretty one: It has become so utterly futile for so many, so utterly hopeless, that they have nothing else to lose. They see their mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, friends, cousins, aunts, uncles, homes, pets, livelihood--everything, for that matter--get destroyed. These suicide bombers are fully cognizant of the legendary tortures in which the Zionist army engages, from shock treatments to cutting of scraps of skin, to body parts taken from people while still alive, with their corpses tossed in the streets. And these militant Palestinian reactionaries respond in the only manner they feel that they can. Their fellow militants respond happily to the carnage created, but not the mothers and fathers of these children, for the most part. They are sad. How could they be happy, with their children dead? The mothers and the fathers are often targeted, whether approved or not, their homes destro! yed for what their children did. Often, brothers and sisters of these people are also targeted, their homes razed as well. Guilt by association is the Israeli motto. This, in turn, breeds more militants.
The paradox of the situation is unsettling: Israel's terrorist actions and non-stop land conquests are government sanctioned. The Israeli government allows its Zionist hatemonger militants--indeed, it glowingly approves of--to commit unchecked atrocities. The other day, Zionist helicopters went after what it deemed was a militant in the middle of a crowded square. It murdered many innocent people in its effort to assassinate this man, accused (and, by Israel's logic) and therefore guilty and subject to murder, according to the Zionist decree. Not too long ago, Zionists took out a skyscraper in an effort to assassinate one person.
On the other hand, the Palestinian leadership at least denounces acts of terrorism perpetrated by its citizens. Yet it is the Palestinians who live in utter futility and ruins thanks to the Zionists, who destroy the Palestinians' land, crops, trees, homes, and lives. If the Palestinian leadership were to act the same way as the Israelis, openly promoting government sanctioned assassinations of Israelis who it felt were terrorists, there would be condemnation of this. But this same treatment is not given for the Israelis.
When you think about the disparities arising over there, many questions come to mind: Where is the Israelis' condemnation when their Zionist cohorts randomly bomb the Palestinians, killing many innocents? Why is it always missing? How come we seldom here about the bombs that the Israeli settlers have planted at children's schools in Palestine, continuing the ongoing trend of sanctioned terrorism? Why are the Israelis who commit such actions never punished accordingly? And what gives these Israelis the right to condemn the Palestinian lone wolves who commit such actions, when Israel itself promotes government-sanctioned terrorism on its part, which has long been part of its policy?
Today, we see the Road Map trying to be administered. It may very well fail, as all other past attempts for peace have failed, as a direct result of Zionist-sponsored terrorism. At the beginning, the Zionists play the part, pretending to be peace partners. This time, they said to the Palestinians, "We are opening checkpoints. Come on through." Many innocent Palestinians tried to get through, but weren't allowed. They were greeted with percussion bombs, part of Israel's campaign to induce terror, as if a ploy to prevent others from going through in the future. Then they beat a little 11-year-old child, breaking his legs. Then the Zionist shot missiles in a crowded square, killing several innocents in an attempt to assassinate someone.
There is only one hope for the Road Map. It is the same hope as it has always been: If America stands at the gates of Israel, gathered around it and shouts, "No more!" as if circling the gates of Jericho. Only if America stops the Israeli hatred and unchecked atrocities will hope then again be restored to the Palestinians, who are victims of the unfettered, wicked acts perpetrated by the Zionist hatemongers. Only then will peace return. Israel is on the highway to hell, cruising along carelessly while tossing out tens of billions of American taxpayers' dollars left-and-right; and it desperately needs to see the Stop sign, forced back on the road to peace.

"Expect More Casualties" Fascist Rumsfeld Says |

Rumsfeld is one of the Main Terrorists
My forces remain engaged in a deadly war, My global war of terror,†he said. “That war will not be over any time soon.â€
General Richard Myers, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said the attacks on British forces and recent strikes on US soldiers in Iraq could be part of a co-ordinated resistance.
“We know that there are Ba’ath party members that don’t want this country to be occupied by U.S. INC government,†he said. “They are still out there, there are other Freedom Fighters probably that have joined them. How organised is yet to be determined. That’s one of the things we’ve NOT got, "intelligence"
" look at the facts.â€
In the wake of yesterday’s attack, Geoff Hoon, the Defence Secretary, has ordered an urgent review of the numbers of troops in Iraq. Up to 5,000 more could be sent out if required.
Mr Hoon said: “First and foremost, it is important that we find out precisely what happened in this appalling incident, we find out who was responsible, and what implications that might have for our deployments elsewhere.â€
An Iraqi policeman in Al Majar Al-Kabir has blamed local people for the attacks, saying that they were angry at civilian deaths during a recent demonstration where U.S. TROOPS OPENED FIRE ON PROTESTERS! —LDT

THE ARAFAT CANARD VS. "BARAK'S GENEROUS OFFER" |
by J Anderson AKA DAN "Would Rather Have My Stuff Hidden by Linkage Than to Post on the Elsewhere Newswire" Disinfo (No verified email address) |

(Its a casual article, but still a good read.):
KL: "Furthermore Arafat was given an offer of 97% of the territories. The point here is that he rejected it not [only] because it "wasn't generous enough", but because he wanted much more and wasn't willing to terminate the conflict which would forever deny him the right to seek more. "
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
KL thinks that he's on American TV where he can get away with repeating the same old canards without being competently challenged and discredited. The Zionists learned well from Geobbels about the constant repetition of propaganda lines. It also takes a central theme of Geobbels' propaganda manual that if you make the propaganda lie BIG, rather than small, it's more likely -- a *BIG* lie, rather than a small lie -- to be believed.
I don't have time to respond to all of the above post, so let me respond to it's central point (or attempted 'coup de grace'). It appears that all of KL's other propaganda points will fall based on the discrediting of his final point.
Before I demolish this claim, first of all, it is the Zionists and the Israelis subliminally playing on the anti-Palestinian (indeed anti-people of color) *RACISM* to be able to, largely, successfully propagandize that,
"We gave the little swarthy savage virtually *everything* he wanted -- *97%!!*-- for God's sake-- and he slapped it down because he just hates us Jews so much that he wants to go on trying to exterminate us! You just can't *deal* with these swarthy towelhead savage heathens!"
Of course the Israeli government--and the Israeli press--along with the American government--and the American press--successfully propagandized both's respective public too, so that even the Israeli public had dangerously been given misinformation about issues affecting their lives--or deaths--of their own fellow citizens or family members. THIS IS THE *MYTH* OF "BARAK'S GENEROUS OFFER".
A) You tell a lie.
B) You constantly repeat it -- especially to a willing, compliant media
- like a propaganda mantra.
- (KL dutifully passes this mantra along.)
C) You make it a *BIG* lie!!
- Arafat can't have turned down 85% (although the original 'figure' was 90% -- but even *that* wasn't good enough!)
- Arafat had to have turned down ***97%***!!!
- (I even heard a figure of *98%*!)
So, that was *MYTH*...
Here is *REALITY*:
(Some of this information was taken from independent sources, but all of it is easily verifiable. Mideast scholars, like Jewish-American Middle Eastern History Professor Joel Beinin of Stanford University has pointed out the same thing.)
It was constantly propagated that, in fact, the Palestinians could have had their state without any need for the current Intifada because in July, 2000, Clinton offered the Palestinians "a peace plan" that would have ended the occupation, but Arafat turned it down. This *MYTH* has been a propaganda line long-promoted, IMPERVIOUS TO THE COUNTER-EVIDENCE PRESENTED BY A MEMBER OF CLINTON'S OWN NEGOTIATING TEAM!! --ROBERT MALLEY:
See Robert Malley and Hussein Agha, "Camp David: The Tragedy of Errors," New York Review of Books, August 9, 2001.
Malley first notes the context: Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak came to Camp David in July, 2000, having reneged on various agreements with the Palestinians and having substantially increased the number of Israeli settlers in the Occupied Territories during his year in office. Palestinians were understandably wary of Israeli peace offers, given that after six years of Oslo "there were more Israeli settlements, less freedom of movement, and worse economic conditions." Then at Camp David Barak supposedly made an offer -- but never in writing and never in detail. In fact, says, Malley, "strictly speaking, there never was an Israeli offer".
The standard canard goes on that with the failure of Camp David, Arafat opted for war. But consider what followed:
In September, 2000, Barak approved a provocative visit by Ariel Sharon, then a member of the Knesset, to the site of the Al Aqsa mosque.
Given the growing Palestinian rage at the occupation, the results were entirely predictable. The next day *SOME* Palestinians threw rocks (DON'T YOU ZIONISTS LONG FOR THOSE DAYS, NOW, WHEN PALESTINIANS LARGELY ONLY THREW ROCKS?) and the heavily-reinforced police responded with *INDISCRIMINTATE* LETHAL FIRE: KILLING FOUR and WOUNDING *HUNDREDS*. *THUS* began The 2nd Intifada. Israeli police and soldiers -- under Barak's authority -- continued to use lethal force in situations where their lives were not in danger.
Some Palestinians proceeded to arm themselves, and the killing escalated, with deaths on both sides, though the victims were disproportionately Palestinians.
It is sometimes claimed that Palestinians intentionally try to kill Israeli civilians (which some certainly do) while the unarmed civilians killed by the Israelis are all unintended "collateral damage." AS I HAVE SAID BEFORE, THE PALESTINIANS CAN BE *AC-CUSED* OF *EVERY* ATROCITY AND THE ISRAELIS CAN BE *EX-CUSED* FROM *ANY* ATROCITY! -- PLAYING ON ANTI-PALESTINIAN, ANTI-PEOPLE OF COLOR, RACISM, WITH ATTENDANT IDEAS OF WHITE/EUROPEAN MORAL SUPERIORITY: I.E., "WE SUPERIOR WHITE PEOPLE DON'T COMMIT ATROCITIES"! But numerous human rights reports by international (as well as Israeli) human rights groups discredit this claim that Israel unintentionally targets civilians.
IN FACT, IN NOVEMBER 2001, SHARON'S DEMAND FOR A ONE-WEEK CESSATION IN PALESTINIAN ATTACKS WAS MET. (THERE HAVE EVEN BEEN LONGER CESSATIONS UP TO ABOUT ONE MONTH.) But, having painted himself into his own corner, "no negotiations without a one-week cessation of violence", Sharon then ordered the assassination of Hamas leader Mahmoud Abu Hanoud, which, as everyone predicted, led to a rash of terror bombings, which in turn Sharon used as justification for further assaults on the Palestinian Authority.
(Hanoud's case is interesting in another respect: despite Israeli claims that Arafat refused to arrest terrorists, or else arrested them only to release them shortly thereafter, Hanoud had been in a Palestinian jail. He was not released. Instead, in August 2001, using an *F-16*, Israeli leaders tried to assassinate him in the JAIL! The building was destroyed and 11 police officers were killed! Hanoud escaped.)
SO, *THERE* YOU HAVE "BARAK'S/ISRAEL'S GENEROUS OFFER".
LET'S PUT THIS PROPAGANDA PUPPY TO SLEEP NOW!

You've taken a cheap shot at us. I know young adults in Germany, Spain, Sweden, Mongolia, Kazachstan, and know their countries struggle with ceo greed, corporate priorities the exclude many costs of production which they pass off to the land and people and governments. What is bad about us is bad everywhere else in this world today. It is not just in the USA. I wish I had a solution. How do you teach those with the power to care about the environment, the future, and take more responsibility for the cost of doing business? |
