Follow-up Note About SF-IMC Current rating: 13
14 May 2003
Pretty much self-explanatory. It follows one of those cases where someone reposted a mainstream article but with the title "BLOODSUCKING ZIONAZIS ..." -- which an Indybay editor then promptly promoted into the "Global News" section.
Specifically

by good grief Wednesday May 14, 2003 at 09:35 AM

What we are talking about is how the made-up headline discredits the valuable information in the article itself. If you want people to pay attention to an article, then it is important that is not be misleadingly titled in such a way that it brings the article itself into disrepute.

Anyone who has used SF IMC for more than two minutes is well aware of the situation in Palestine. Unfortunately, headlines falsified with the intent to bring the artilces they are attached to has become an extremely common occurence here. That is why I brought up the subject in the first palce, which is why such material is promoted by the SF IMC editorial team. It makes you wonder whether they have been infiltrated by disniformation specialist when they use such uncritical standards.

I can understand why this was allowed to stay on the Other/Breaking Newswire. The question is why it was promoted to the Global Newswire, which is a vliad question udner the circumstances, where it only serves to discredit the Palestinian cause. The comments that say this should not be questioned seem designed to achive that same unfortunate goal.

"such material is promoted by the SF IMC editorial team"

This is your last warning. Stop posting criticism of our editorial policy to any thread but this one:

http://sf.indymedia.org/news/2002/12/1548433.php

If you do it again anywhere else on this board, it will be removed and so will everything else you have ever written. We're getting mighty tired of you, and of people like you, hijacking topics and diverting attention from the subject at hand. This thread is not about SF-IMC. It's about yet another Zionist atrocity. Stay on topic or get 86ed. The choice is yours.

It's an interesting contrast, by the way. The same post that was promoted to the Global newswire on SF-IMC was hidden here as danspam.

Normally I refrain from crticizing the workings of other IMCs in public, but if I wanted to read nonsensical crap like the comment from someone claiming to be an editor at SF IMC that you cited, I can pick up a copy of the Washington Times or National Review. What's the point of even having Open Publishing if reasonable criticism (and there was nothing at all unreasonable about the comments by "good grief") about an article is not allowed?

As for the same article being hidden here, all I can say is that DAN is so easy to pick out as an abuser of the IMC network that his presence on, and even promotion by, SF IMC must mean that he or someone who supports his well-documented history of abuse across this entire network must be a part of the SF IMC collective. That is definitely a disturbing development and bodes ill for the sustainability of their collective. Unless there really are enough people comfortable with his perverted attack style in the San Francisco area. Otherwise, SF IMC will likely soon be a thoroughly discredited and marginalized organization. They can do what they want at SF IMC, but if this sort of thing is in fact policy there, it is an embarrassment to the network as a whole.
A Change Or ?

I noticed that the usual complement of "Zionazi"-this-and-that-headlined stories seem to be scrolling down the Other/Breaking Newswire at SF IMC now, instead of being moved to their Global Newswire by their editorial collective.

It's hard to say whether this is because:

#1 The person who claimed to be "one of the editors" was simply making a bogus claim that made it appear that it was official SF IMC policy to advance such misleadingly attributed material to their Global Newswire.

or

#2 SF IMC has actually had a change in policy regarding the advancing of such obviously discrediting and disreputable material to their Global Newswire, which is moderated by their editorial team.

The reason this will likely remain a mystery is the overall lack of transparency by the SF IMC Editorial team. Their email list is off-limits to non-members, so it can't be ascertained why this has occurred.

As we are well aware here, the person involved with these attacks does read IMC email lists to facilitate his actions in response to the actions taken by IMC editorial team members responding to his attacks. We know that in the case of dealing with low-lifes like him, off-list communication is sometimes required (but with the meetings in regard to such matters advertised and open to the public) in order to deal with this specific topic effectively. It still seems odd to have this overall lack of transparency about editorial policy and decsion making by any member of the IMC network.

What is especially tragic is that SF IMC has also been repeatedly attacked, yet again this morning, by this same individual who we have previosuly identified as responsible for much of this hate spam here and across the IMC network, allegedly on behalf of the Palestinian cause, but now misrepresenting himself as a Zionist disgruntled with SF IMC's editorial policies. Since this person uses multiple proxies to carry out such attacks, it is possible that the SF IMC cannot identify him by his originating IP, but as we know here, there are other methods to make such an identification.

It will be interesting to see where this is going.
