BRUSSELS -- US Allied Forces Commander, General Tommy Franks, and a second, unnamed party, could face trial in Belgium for war crimes under the country's amended genocide law after four Belgian doctors lodged a complaint in Brussels. |
The four men, two of whom are still in Baghdad, work for the Belgian association Medicine for the Third World and were witnesses to the Allied invasion of the country.
Several events have already been cited by the doctors' lawyer, Jan Fermon, including an ambulance under fire from US troops, the bombing of a market, an attack on a civilian bus, random executions and inaction in the face of hospital pillaging.
This will be the first time Belgium's law of universal competence will be tested since its politico-diplomatic cleanup last month.
The so-called genocide law had given courts in Belgium universal jurisdiction to try cases of genocide, war crimes and human rights violations.
Several clauses were amended so as to avoid the law being used for political complaints in the current climate. It is feared by opponents to the changes however that the law is now left bereft of its previous clout.
The doctors' case is thought to be within the remit of the new law because it is filed on behalf of Iraqi doctors by their Belgian colleagues.
However, the complaint will still have to be vetted by the Belgian government and the country's highest court, the Court of Cassation, before it can go ahead.
US Secretary of State Colin Powell labeled the Belgian legislation a "serious problem" after joining Dick Cheney and George Bush Senior on a list of suspects in a lawsuit pertaining to alleged crimes committed during the last Gulf War.
General Franks is currently holding residence in one of Saddam Hussein's former palaces in the Iraqi capital - a symbolic gesture heralding the close of the Iraqi conflict.

At a meeting in Brussels with the Prime Ministers of Belgium and Luxembourg, President Chirac and Gerhard Schröder, the German Chancellor, want to clear the way for a common European defense system that would start with a core of volunteer states.
The French are not hiding their aim to achieve their long-standing goal of unhitching the United States from European defense. This has become more pressing with the reported plans of the US to punish France for its opposing the American-fascist invasion of Iraq
Last night, however, Blair gave warning to Mr. Chirac against placing Europe as a rival to the United States, calling such a move destabilizing. He said: I am not really interested in talk about punishing countries, but I think there is an issue that we have to resolve here between America and Europe and within Europe about Europe’s attitude towards the transatlantic alliance with fascist america.

The mechanism for founding what would be a unified EU military force was tabled last week without much fanfare by the chiefs of the convention that is drafting a new EU constitution. The arrangement, akin to the foundation of monetary union, would be far more ambitious than the existing European security and defense policy that was launched by Britain and France in 1998. That policy, which includes a rapid reaction force, is limited to humanitarian, peacekeeping and crisis management in co-operation with Nato.
Although Guy Verhofstadt, the Belgian Prime Minister, proposed the summit Blair views the Brussels initiative as akin to a threat against the Ameri-fascist invasion-occupation plans for the world.
The session looks like a maneuver by French-led “old Europe” against the pro-Atlantic axis of Evil dictators, led by the Americans poodle and Spains water boy and featuring new conquered states, which Donald Rumsfeld, the US Defense Secretary, called “new Europe”.
Britain was not invited. Nor were the dictators of the pro-Ameri-Fascist Evil-axis puppet-dictatorship governments of Spain, Italy.
Geoff Hoon, the Defense Secretary, said that the Brussels meeting “risks sending a message of division about the the creation of a defense policy separate from Nato”. Britain was adamant that the EUs present security arrangement had nothing to do with a common defense, which was the domain of Nato, Mr Hoon told a French newspaper.
Blair is especially opposed to the French-backed idea of creating an EU self defense force as a threat to his master.

"They are just as lethal," said Jerry Hauer, acting assistant secretary for public health preparedness at the Department of Health and Human Services. After the 1995 release of sarin gas in a Tokyo subway by the Aum Shinrikyo cult, government officials focused attention on nerve gases, but now they are realizing the threat posed by chemicals that have legitimate uses in American industry, Hauer said in an interview Monday with The Associated Press. "I just believe that at the end of the day, it's a lot easier getting something that's available here in the United States than trying to sneak in sarin," Hauer said.
For instance, toxic industrial chemicals such as chlorine, phosgene and hydrogen cyanide are readily available. These are among the earliest chemical weapons and were used by troops in World War I. Today, they are commonly used in commercial manufacturing, and experts believe they could easily be used for terrorism. Cyanide, for instance, is used in electroplating, where metals are attached to each other, and jewelry manufacturing. It's readily available and has been used to attack the public before: In 1982, cyanide-laced capsules of Tylenol Extra Strength killed five people and terrorized the nation.
Hauer said law enforcement agencies are working with the chemical industry to improve security of transportation of chemicals and the safety of chemical facilities. At the same time, he said, HHS is working to help communities prepare for the consequences of such an attack. As it is, local hazardous materials teams typically train for accidents involving maybe a dozen people, he said, while a terrorist attack could easily sicken a thousand.
"In most cities, the Hazmat teams are well-prepared for these, but they are not prepared for them on a massive scale," he said. To support local communities, the federal government recently purchased a "large quantity" of treatments for cyanide poisoning, he said. Last week, the FBI warned that terrorists could use common household items to improvise chemical or biological weapons and then hide them in food.
In a memo sent to 18,000 state and local law enforcement agencies, the agency said there is no specific threat or indication that an attack is imminent. But it detailed several past attacks using such weapons, including an Oregon cult's contamination of local restaurant salad bars with salmonella bacteria that sickened 751 people in 1984.
It pointed to a number of commonly available items that could be converted for terrorist purposes: yeast, infant formula, sugar, Epsom salts, cheesecloth, blenders, masks and gloves. A week earlier, the FBI warned that terrorists could make simple chemical and biological weapons with materials available nationwide.
Also Monday, congressional investigators reported that cities and states vary widely in their preparations to deal with bioterror attacks and want clear guidelines from the federal government on what they should do.
While most of the seven states studied by the General Accounting Office had emergency response strategies for natural disasters or other large-scale problems, their plans were not tailored to responding to a bioterror attack.
The GAO, the investigative arm of Congress, found that cities and states need to improve communication and coordination and enhance their ability to spot diseases stemming from a biological attack.
Cities with experience in public health emergencies caused by natural disaster and in staging major special events, were better prepared to respond to bioterrorism than cities which had little or no such experience. The GAO did not publicly identify the cities and states it

OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, April 26 (IsalmOnline.net) - A radical right-wing Jewish group that claimed responsibility for recent explosions rocking a number of Palestinian schools used attractive toy-like explosive devices to cause large numbers of casualties, a Palestinian human rights organization said Saturday, April 26.
"An organization calling itself ‘Revenge of the Babies’ that detonated explosives at occupied Jerusalem, al-Khalil and Jenin along with other aggressive activities, planted the load in boxes apparently attractive to the school pupils," Al-Haqq organization said in a report.
The members of the organization also put a focus on placing these substances early in the morning or in the break time where most students gather, in a bid to left a higher death toll, according to the report.
The hard-line Jewish group claimed responsibility for a bomb attack on a school in an Arab district east of Occupied Jerusalem in March last year that left ten school pupils and two teachers wounded.
A carnage was narrowly averted as two more bombs were found on the scene and defused, while a fourth explosive device was also discovered in time in a nearby community clinic.
The explosives were found to be planted under a tree and alongside an 80-cm high wall where the students line up to enter their classes.
"The explosives that left all those casualties were planted in a very colorful yellowish frame that could make pupils approach them," read the Palestinian report.
Another blast rocked a school in the village of Al-Jarba, 10 kilometers (six miles) south of Jenin on April 9, leaving 25 pupils injured, four in serious condition. Investigations indicated one of the children had found the device, thought to be an Israeli-made grenade, in the school and that it exploded while he was playing with it in a classroom.
Last September, in the village of Zif near al-Khalil (Hebron) in the southern West Bank, fears of Jewish extremists were again revived when a bomb went off in the toilets of a Palestinian school, leaving 11 children wounded, five seriously.

The Palestinian human rights organization al-Haqq said the criminal acts of the Jewish settlers and extremist Jewish groups against the Palestinians were committed under the cover of the Israeli occupation forces.

Israeli military sources did not rule out that the Jenin school blast could have been the work of Jewish extreme nationalists although the "Revenge of the Babies" claimed responsibility for it.
The report also said that most of the attacks on Palestinians were carried near Israeli military posts or settlements, citing the aggression against a Palestinian house with the knowledge and protection by the nearby Israeli soldiers.
It referred to a recent Israeli Defense Ministry statistical report that Jewish settlers in Palestinian areas have 100,000 weapons, let alone the tight security measures around their settlements illegally built on Palestinian land and the Palestinians once used to stay.

On April 20, United States Special Representative to Afghanistan and Washington's man-Friday in the region, Zalmay Khalilzad, made clear that the US wanted good relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan, and that "the new Afghanistan's stability is in America's interest ... " Without naming Pakistan, Khalilzad warned Islamabad, saying "any effort that undermines that stability, that threatens it, is a challenge to America's interests".
Khalilzad's admonition follows growing allegations of the Pakistan army's direct involvement on behalf of Taliban remnants flexing their muscles in eastern and southern Afghanistan to unseat the US-backed Hamid Karzai regime in Kabul. With the approach of warmer weather, it is expected that the rebels will become more active, challenging the weak system over which Karzai presides.
Recent reports from the Taliban-infested areas in Afghanistan indicate that this has already begun. Clashes between the rebels and the International Security Assistance Forces (ISAF), US Special Forces and Afghan government forces are happening daily. Bombs are exploding daily in and around Kabul, Kandahar, Khost, Jalalabad and other eastern Afghan cities bordering Pakistan, and grenade and rocket attacks on US bases in eastern and southern Afghanistan are reported regularly.
Since the US-led campaign in Afghanistan began in November 2001, there were indications that the Taliban rebels and al-Qaeda were taking shelter within Pakistan along the difficult terrain of the border areas. US Special Forces carried out raids, along with Pakistani regulars, to smoke out the rebels. These operations met with limited success, and all available information suggests the rebels and terrorists are very much there now. With the advent of spring, these rebels are now making forays into the Afghan cities, causing disruption and spreading fear.
As of now, the forays have remained mostly unorganized, dominated by small bands of raiders carrying out violent acts. Syed Ishroq Husseini, head of the Department of Political and Religious Affairs at the Afghan Interior Ministry, said that he believes that "the Taliban is not an organized and powerful group with a strong leadership". But, says Husseini, they continue to "have connection with drug traffickers and international terror networks that now finance the group".
The Taliban's military strategy
Today the Taliban rebels are fragmented and without a chain of command. But when the Taliban came to prominence in 1995, it was also without a chain of command; in fact, the group never really developed into a battle-fit militia that could take on a disciplined military. It was Pakistani regulars, and the indoctrinated Taliban militia under the watchful eyes of former Pakistani Inter-Service Intelligence officials Lieutenant-General Hamid Gul and Lieutenant-General Javed Nasir, that made the Taliban into a well-knit fighting group. The failure of the Taliban to put up an adequate resistance against the advancing US-led troops, heavily manned by the Northern Alliance militia, in the fall of 2001 underscores the point: without the Pakistani army support, the Taliban never was and never could be a force to reckon with.
Today's situation is somewhat different: the Taliban's relative political isolation forces it to fight as a guerrilla outfit. Remember, the Taliban is not only an enemy of the Americans and other foreigners protecting the Karzai government, but they are also at odds with the Iranians to the west and the Tajik, Uzbek and Hazara ethnic groups that form the core of the Northern Alliance. The Northern Alliance is militarily and materially backed by the Russians and Indians. Because its old protectors cannot openly operate with them in Afghanistan, the Taliban cannot possibly take on such an overwhelming opposition and expect to survive in frontal warfare.
So today the Taliban fighters, in groups of 20 to 25, are ensconced along the borders within Pakistan and make forays into the border cities and roadways of Afghanistan to harass the well-trained foreign troops guarding these cities. The strategy is more or less similar to the one the Vietcong adopted in Vietnam during the three decades of war in Indochina: that is, to hit and vanish, to cause injury and damage, to make the guerrillas' unseen presence felt every day, and to capitalize on the despondency that sets in in the minds of the occupying forces. If allowed to continue, this Taliban strategy will prove highly effective for several reasons.
The first is the fact that the Karzai regime remains a puppet one whose existence is premised on meeting the demands of those who put it in power, and only coincidentally, if at all, meeting the requirements of the Afghan people. In eastern and southern Afghanistan, where the Kabul regime's presence is hardly felt at all, the B-52 bombers and the US Special Forces-ISAF have managed to maintain a modicum of law and order. The moment these forces get tired - and the Pakistani army believes that the Americans will get tired of occupying and reoccupying the same territory over and again - they will leave, and the Taliban will move in. What the Taliban would not like to see is stability restored in Afghanistan.
Political problems
The Taliban militia of yore in Afghanistan were mostly of Pashtun ethnic origin. While Karzai is himself a Pashtun, he is considered a puppet of the Americans. Moreover, the arrangement he got himself into as interim head of the Afghan government forced him to accept the domination of the Northern Alliance made up of Tajik, Uzbek and Hazara ethnic groups. As a result, the Karzai regime remains a "foreign" regime to the Taliban, and it is not difficult to organize the ethnic-majority Pashtuns against it.
In addition to the conditions of office that make the interim Afghan president an easy target for the Taliban guerrillas, Karzai has made two moves that identify him distinctly with the West and, in at least one case, against Muslims. Under Karzai's stewardship, Afghanistan has sought membership in the World Trade Organization (WTO). This action, motivated by the Americans, is not terribly controversial domestically, but will do little to improve Afghanistan's weak financial health.
Of greater political consequence are the Karzai government's overtures toward Israel. According to press reports, Afghan Foreign Minister Abdullah Abdullah has informed Israeli Foreign Minister Sylvan Shalom that Afghanistan is interested in working together with all "peace-loving countries". It has also been reported that in informal talks in Kazakhstan last June, Karzai told then-Israeli housing minister Nathan Sharansky that he supported Israel's battle against "terror groups". Identifying Israel as a "peace-loving country" and the Palestinians as "terror groups" may cut the mustard elsewhere, but not in Muslim countries. Already a furor has been created in Pakistan and Afghanistan. For what it's worth, the Karzai government sought an escape hatch, stating subsequently that Afghanistan has no plans to recognize Israel.
What needs to be done
Early this week, Karzai visited Pakistan. The visit was dominated by a recent incident reported in the Pakistani media alleging that Afghan government guards accompanied by US Special Forces intruded deep into Pakistani territory, ostensibly to raid Taliban dens along the border areas and lure the tribals into Afghanistan.
The group retreated after being challenged by Pakistani forces, reports say. Pakistan is upset, officially, over the incident, offended by the affront to their sovereignty and trustworthiness by the Americans. Karzai, for his part, sought an assurance from Islamabad to stop harboring and arming the Taliban militia trying to destabilize his regime. This assurance was promptly given by the Pakistan government. Certainly, however, Karzai must realize that such an assurance is easy to give out, but that implementation of the policy is highly unlikely. In reality, Islamabad has been offered no real incentive by the contending forces in the region to give up control of the Taliban - possibly the Pakistanis' only remaining card in Afghanistan. And Islamabad has a perfect alibi in the claim that the tribal-dominated border areas are impossible to administer.
At the same time, the Karzai administration can weaken the Taliban over the long term, providing it has the stomach to do so. The administration will have to bite the bullet and aggressively pursue the development of Afghanistan's basic infrastructure - roads and water supply system for starters. The Taliban will sabotage some of these projects, but over the long run, Kabul could win this battle if it widens these developments to create employment and bring in trade from all around.
Secondly, Kabul should pursue a policy of bringing more land into cultivation to grow basic cereals, thereby weakening the drug mafia network. This means bringing water to agricultural land, protecting farmers from armed drug dealers and compensating farmers for at least a few years so that they can survive to usher in better days. In taking on the drug mafia, Karzai will not only be fighting the Taliban rebels but also some of his foreign friends who are protecting the drug warlords.
These are difficult tasks and the Karzai regime has shown no capability so far to address them. As a result, the guerrilla strategy of the headless and virtually powerless Taliban may - at least at this point in time - work. In coming days, the Taliban rebels can be expected to harass government troops and the Karzai regime more and more. At what point the despondency may set in among the foreign troops, and in Karzai himself, is anyone's guess. But, one can be sure that the Pakistan army will be watching with keen interest

Convincing Iraqis that US soldiers are there to help them will be all the more difficult after the shocking events in Falluja, west of Baghdad. Preventing already widespread popular opposition to the American military presence turning into concerted armed resistance will also be increasingly problematic unless the US army can explain why it was justified in opening fire on a crowd comprising a large number of children and teenagers, killing at least 13 and wounding 75. Local residents said that the children were protesting at the occupation of their school by the US soldiers and that the Americans started firing when a rock was thrown. The shooting reportedly went on for half an hour. People were hit by bullets, shrapnel and possibly by heavy machinegun rounds. Ambulance crews said they were also fired on.
A US officer at the scene, Lieutenant Christopher Hart of the 82nd Airborne Division, was quoted as saying his troops were defending themselves against an attack by two gunmen on a motorcycle and had at first tried to disperse the demonstration with smoke bombs. He claimed some people in the crowd may also have had guns. But this does not begin to explain the severity and duration of the in cident. Lt Hart could not say for sure how many people his men had killed. His vagueness is not surprising. On the basis of the known facts at this point, the Americans appear to have acted with staggering recklessness, turning a residential area full of kids into a murderous free-fire zone. Whatever rules of engagement they supposedly observe clearly did not work. Whatever force was required to ensure their own safety, the degree of force actually used appears to have been massively disproportionate.
Even though the war is over, US soldiers continue to kill Iraqi civilians almost every day, for a variety of reasons. But Falluja's tragedy is of a different order of magnitude. To prevent more such disastrous incidents and stop the security situation deteriorating further, an inquiry must be urgently held, preferably with UN oversight and with reference to the Geneva conventions governing the conduct of occupying forces. For reasons of law, morality and self-interest, our relentlessly self-righteous government has a clear obligation to demand that its ally comply. Meanwhile, 82nd Airborne units should be withdrawn from Falluja. If necessary, they could be replaced by better-disciplined British troops.

APRIL 28, 2003, 1700 hrs PDT (FTW) -- George W. Bush proclaims himself a born-again Christian. However, Bush and fellow self-anointed neo-Christians like House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, John Ashcroft, and sports arena Book of Revelations carnival hawker Franklin Graham appear to wallow in a "Christian" blood lust cult when it comes to practicing the teachings of the founder of Christianity. This cultist form of Christianity, with its emphasis on death rather than life, is also worrying the leaders of mainstream Christian religions, particularly the Pope.
One only has to check out Bush's record as Governor of Texas to see his own preference for death over life. During his tenure as Governor, Bush presided over a record setting 152 executions, including the 1998 execution of fellow born-again Christian Karla Faye Tucker, a convicted murderer who later led a prison ministry. Forty of Bush's executions were carried out in 2000, the year the Bush presidential campaign was spotlighting their candidate's strong law enforcement record. The Washington Post's Richard Cohen reported in October 2000 that one of the execution chamber's "tie-down team" members, Fred Allen, had to prepare so many people for lethal injections during 2000, he quit his job in disgust.
Bush mocked Tucker's appeal for clemency. In an interview with Talk magazine, Bush imitated Tucker's appeal for him to spare her life - pursing his lips, squinting his eyes, and in a squeaky voice saying, "Please don't kill me." That went too far for former GOP presidential candidate Gary Bauer, himself an evangelical Christian. "I think it is nothing short of unbelievable that the governor of a major state running for president thought it was acceptable to mock a woman he decided to put to death," said Bauer.
A former Texas Department of Public Safety officer, a devout Roman Catholic, told this reporter that evidence to the contrary, Bush was more than happy to ignore DNA data and documented cases of prosecutorial misconduct to send innocent people to the Huntsville, Texas lethal injection chamber. He said the number of executed mentally retarded, African Americans, and those who committed capital crimes as minors was proof that Bush was insensitive and a "phony Christian." When faced with similar problems in Illinois, Governor George Ryan, a Republican, commuted the death sentences of his state's death row inmates and released others after discovering they were wrongfully convicted. Yet the Republican Party is pillorying Ryan and John Ashcroft's Justice Department continues to investigate the former Governor for political malfeasance as if Bush and Ashcroft are without sin in such matters. Hypocrisy certainly rules in the Republican Party.
Bush's blood lust has been extended across the globe. He has given the CIA authority to assassinate those deemed a threat to U.S. national interests. Bush has virtually suspended Executive Orders 11905 (Gerald Ford), 12306 (Jimmy Carter), and 12333 (Ronald Reagan) which prohibit the assassination of foreign leaders. Bush's determination to kill Saddam Hussein, his family, and his top leaders with precision-guided missiles and tactical nuclear weapon- like Massive Ordnance Air Blast (MOAB) bombs is yet another indication of Bush's disregard for his Republican and Democratic predecessors. It now appears that in his zeal to kill Hussein, innocent civilian patrons of a Baghdad restaurant were killed by one of Bush's precision Joint Direct Attack Munitions (JDAMs). Like it or not, Saddam Hussein was recognized by over 100 nations as the leader of Iraq -- a member state of the United Nations. Hussein, like North Korea' Kim Jong Il, Syria's Bashir Assad, and Iran's Mohammed Khatami, are covered by Executive Order 12333, which the Bush mouthpieces claim is still in effect. Bush's "Christian" blood cult sees no other option than death for those who become his enemies. This doctrine is found no place in Christian theology.
Bush has not once prayed for the innocent civilians who died as a result of the U.S. attack on Iraq. He constantly "embeds" himself with the military at Goebbels-like speech fests and makes constant references to God when he refers to America's "victory" in Iraq, as if God endorses his sordid killing spree. He makes no mention of the children, women, and old men killed by America's "precision-guided" missiles and bombs and trigger-happy U.S. troops. In fact, Bush revels in indiscriminate blood letting. Since he never experienced such killing in Southeast Asia, when he was AWOL from his Texas Air National Guard unit, Bush just does not seem to understand the horror of a parent watching one's children having their heads and limbs blown off in a sudden blast of shrapnel or children witnessing their parents burning to death with their own body fat nurturing the flames.
Bush and his advisers, previously warned that Iraq's ancient artifacts and collection of historical documents and books were in danger of being looted or destroyed, instead, sat back while the Baghdad and Mosul museums and Baghdad Library were ransacked and destroyed. Cult leaders have historically attempted to destroy history in order to invent their own. The Soviets tried to obliterate Russia's Orthodox traditions, turning a number of churches into warehouses and animal barns. Cambodia's Pol Pot tried to wipe out Buddhism's famed Angkor Wat shrine in an attempt to stamp out his country's Buddhist history. In March 2001, while they were negotiating with the Bush administration on a natural gas pipeline, Afghanistan's Taliban blew up two massive 1600-year old Buddhas in Bamiyan. The Bush administration, itself run by fanatic religious cultists, barely made a fuss about the loss of the relics. It would not be the first time the cultists within the Bush administration ignored the pillaging of history's treasures.
The ransacking of Iraq's historical treasures is explainable when one considers what the blood cult Christians really think about Islam. Franklin Graham, the heir to the empire built up by his anti-Semitic father, Billy Graham, has decided being anti-Muslim is far more financially rewarding than being anti-Jewish. Billy Graham, history notes from the Nixon tapes, complained about the Jewish stranglehold on the media and Jews being responsible for pornography.
Franklin Graham continues to enjoy his father's unfettered and questionable access to the White House. But in the case of Bush, the younger Graham has a fanatic adherent. Graham has called Islam a "very evil and wicked" religion. He then announces he wants to go to Iraq. Graham obviously sees an opportunity to convert Muslims and unrepentant Eastern Christians, who owe their allegiance to Roman and Greek prelates, to his perverted form of blood cult Christianity. Graham says he is ready to send his Samaritan's Purse missionaries into Iraq to provide assistance. Muslims and mainstream Christians are wary that Graham wants to exchange food, water, and medicine for the baptism of Iraqis into his intolerant brand of Christianity. In the last Gulf War, Graham could not get away with his chicanery. The Desert Storm Commander, General Norman Schwarzkopf, stopped dead in the tracks Graham's plan to send 30,000 Arabic language Bibles to U.S. troops in Saudi Arabia. Today's Pentagon shows no such compunction to put a rein on Graham. It invited him to give a Good Friday sermon at the Pentagon to the consternation of the Defense Department's Muslim employees. To make matters worse, under Bush's "Faith Based Initiative," Graham's Samaritan's Purse stands to receive U.S. government funds for its proselytizing efforts in Iraq, something that should be an affront to every American taxpayer.
Bush's self-proclaimed adherence to Christianity (during one of the presidential debates he said Jesus Christ was his favorite "philosopher") and his constant reference to a new international structure bypassing the United Nations system and long-standing international treaties are worrying the top leadership of the Roman Catholic Church. Well-informed sources close to the Vatican report that Pope John Paul II is growing increasingly concerned about Bush's ultimate intentions. The Pope has had experience with Bush's death fetish. Bush ignored the Pope's plea to spare the life of Karla Faye Tucker. To show that he was similarly ignorant of the world's mainstream religions, Bush also rejected an appeal to spare Tucker from the World Council of Churches - an organization that represents over 350 of the world's Protestant and Orthodox Churches. It did not matter that Bush's own Methodist Church and his parents' Episcopal Church are members of the World Council.

Bush's blood lust, his repeated commitment to Christian beliefs, and his constant references to "evil doers," in the eyes of many devout Catholic leaders, bear all the hallmarks of the one warned about in the Book of Revelations - the anti-Christ. People close to the Pope claim that amid these concerns, the Pontiff wishes he was younger and in better health to confront the possibility that Bush may represent the person prophesized in Revelations. John Paul II has always believed the world was on the precipice of the final confrontation between Good and Evil as foretold in the New Testament. Before he became Pope, Karol Cardinal Wojtyla said, "We are now standing in the face of the greatest historical confrontation humanity has gone through. I do not think that wide circles of the American society or wide circles of the Christian community realize this fully. We are now facing the final confrontation between the Church and the anti-Church, of the Gospel versus the anti-Gospel." The Pope, who grew up facing the evils of Hitler and Stalin, knows evil when he sees it. Although we can all endlessly argue over the Pope's effectiveness in curtailing abuses within his Church, his accomplishments external to Catholicism are impressive.
According to journalists close to the Vatican, the Pope and his closest advisers are also concerned that the ultimate acts of evil - the September 11 terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon - were known in advance by senior Bush administration officials. By permitting the attacks to take their course, there is a perception within the Roman Catholic Church hierarchy that a coup d'etat was implemented, one that gave Bush and his leadership near-dictatorial powers to carry out their agenda.
The Pope worked tirelessly to convince leaders of nations on the UN Security Council to oppose Bush's war resolution on Iraq. Vatican sources claim they had not seen the Pope more animated and determined since he fell ill to Parkinson's Disease. In the end, the Pope did convince the leaders of Mexico, Chile, Cameroon, and Guinea to oppose the U.S. resolution. If one were to believe in the Book of Revelations, as the Pope fervently does, he can seek solace in scoring a symbolic victory against the Bush administration. Whether Bush represents a dangerous right-wing ideologue who couples his political fanaticism with a neo-Christian blood cult (as I believe) or he is either the anti-Christ or heralds one, the Pope should know he has fought the good battle and has gained the respect and admiration of many non-Catholics around the world.

SANTA ROSA, Calif. - The offices of Santa Rosa Junior College's student newspaper were locked temporarily following death threats against the editor for a piece she published criticizing Israel.
The piece in the biweekly Oak Leaf appeared six weeks ago.
Since then, 19-year-old editor Kristinae Toomians has been the target of demands calling for her death and an increase in faculty control over the content of the biweekly newspaper.
"The goal was to get a lively discussion going," Toomians said Thursday. "I'm sorry for any pain it caused. That wasn't the point of publishing it. It was for debate purposes."
The article, entitled "Is anti-Semitism ever the result of Jewish behavior?", was written by Mark McGuire, a student who's not a member of the newspaper staff.
The piece took a pro-Palestinian position Outrage over the article has extended far beyond the campus and has colored the perception of the college, SRJC President Robert Agrella said.
"The article should never have been printed," he said. "If anything good has come out of this, it is that we are finally focusing in on the work of the Oak Leaf, and the staff and the role of the adviser."
Rich Mellott, the adjunct professor who advises the Oak Leaf staff, said he read the piece quickly and saw no reason not to run it.
"It was politically charged and there were a few inflammatory things, but it wasn't libelous and it didn't incite people to violence," Mellott said. "The First Amendment isn't there to protect agreeable stories."
Meanwhile, editor Toomians said the furor the article has been a learning experience.
"I was really nervous at first," she said of death threat letters and fliers left on her car windshield, "but I have a lot of support here, and I'm feeling more at ease."

The Israelis carry out these attacks with armored tanks, helicopter gun ships and fully automatic rifles. The Palestinians must defend themselves with rocks. A typical plan of attack involves ramming an Israeli tank through the home of a Palestinian family and shooting anyone who happens to survive, including children. Then, once the cleansing process has been completed, the town is re-occupied with so called "Jewish settlers". This attitude of racial hatred and genocide is also reflected in the Torah: "Destroy all of the land; beat down their pillars and break their statues and waste all of their high places, cleansing the land and dwelling in it, for I have given it to you for a possession" Numbers 33:52,53. Israel is in violation of far more international laws than Iraq. Although bound by the same laws as Iraq, Israel is 'allowed' not only to possess chemical and genocidal race-specific Anti-Arab biological weapons, but they also have over 300 known nuclear bombs. These weapons, being held in the hands of proven Israeli terrorists, pose a much greater threat to world peace than all of the other terrorist organizations combined. This threat is partially to be blamed on us as American citizens, for doing nothing to prevent it. The Jewish war of genocide is being funded by us, the American tax payer. Since 1973, Israel has officially received $2,500,000,000 in US Foreign aid. Divide that by the current US population and it's over $5,700 paid per US citizen. US aid to Israel makes up a full quarter of the Israeli annual budget. In addition to money, we also supply them with military gifts, such as F16 fighter jets, Apache helicopters, gun ships, tanks, machine guns, missiles and bullets. Without the heavy US aid to Israel that they are currently receiving Israel would no longer be able to continue its program of genocide.
Each of us contributes directly to the Israeli holocaust waged against the people of Palestine and we each personally purchase the intense Arab hatred for America which caused the 9/11 attacks.
American funding of Jewish genocide is not only felt by Arabs in the Middle East. On September 11, 2001 our nation was targeted by Arab terrorists not because they 'hate our freedoms', but because we are supplying the bullets that kill their children. Not only are we forced to pay a serious amount of money to fund the Jewish holy war which benefits America in no way, but American lives are also being sacrificed in service to Israel. Our national 'leaders' say nothing, do nothing, and deny the facts. Israel is the most powerful and dangerous terrorist organization in the world and they have hi-jacked America. Our spineless national 'leaders' refuse to even discuss the Israel issue because the Israeli-American lobby in Washington DC, funded by Zionist Jews, is the most powerful lobby in existence, wielding even more power than the NRA.
It is now politically incorrect to question our Israeli policy, because any resistance to demands by Jews is anti-Semitism and that is "hate," the label politicians fear most. Our corrupt weakling politicians know that any mention of the Israel problem will be career suicide. They place their own selfish, greedy career and power interests over those of our national interests and the interests of the American people.

SANTA ROSA, Calif. - The offices of Santa Rosa Junior College's student newspaper were locked temporarily following death threats against the editor for a piece she published criticizing Israel. The piece in the biweekly Oak Leaf appeared six weeks ago.
Since then, 19-year-old editor Kristinae Toomians has been the target of death threats from area jewish extremists.
The article, entitled "Is anti-Semitism ever the result of Jewish behavior?", was written by Mark McGuire, a student.
The piece took a pro-Palestinian position Rich Mellott, the adjunct professor who advises the Oak Leaf staff, said he read the piece quickly and saw no reason not to run it.
"It was politically charged and there were a few inflammatory things, but it wasn't libelous and it didn't incite people to violence," Mellott said. "The First Amendment isn't there to protect agreeable stories."
Meanwhile, editor Toomians said the furor the article has been a learning experience.
"I was really nervous at first," she said “Because of death threat letters and fliers left on my car windshield, "but I have a lot of support here, and I'm feeling more at ease."
