Area residents opposed to war and Administration lies protested Saturday along with peace advocates in over 140 cities. The activists are calling on Congress to censure, and possibly impeach, President Bush and VP Cheney. (Photos by Jan Kruse) |

(Champaign) A crowd of two to three dozen anti-war protesters gathered at the intersection of Main and Neil in Champaign this Saturday January 7 from 2-4pm, carrying signs calling for immediate US withdrawal from Iraq and handing out hundreds of flyers announcing a national call-in to Congressional representatives January 9.
The national call-in is urging Congress to pass three resolutions:
(1) H.Res.635 to create a select committee to investigate and to make recommendations on grounds for impeachment,
(2) H.Res.636 to censure Bush, and
(3) H.Res.637 to censure Cheney.
Our local Congressman Representative Timothy V. Johnson (Illinois 15th District) in Champaign is at 217-403-4690
The local protest joined over 140 “Out of Iraq” anti-war events around the country, organized by the “After Downing Street” Coalition. Locally, participation was organized by the Anti-War Anti-Racism Effort (AWARE), the group that organized mass protests on North Prospect leading up to the US invasion of Iraq, drawing over 300 participants weekly for more than a month.
AWARE now demonstrates against US imperialism in Iraq, Afghanistan, Haiti, Venezuela, and elsewhere the first Saturday of every month at the same intersection of Main and Neil in Champaign from 2-4pm.
The group meets every Sunday from 5-6:30pm at the IMC, 202 S Broadway in Urbana. All are welcome. |

I work in the bar across the street and if there were more then ten people at anyone time, I would be very surprised. We were all commenting that we thought that since it was such a nice day, that you guys would be out in force. We had more people in the bar at that hour than you had protesting. If you have to lie about numbers than where's your credibility? |

Talk about a credibility gap. A few drunks and the bartender in a bar complain about the fact that they can't keep track of the number of people across the street. Next time we are out at 1 Main come on over and get a closer look. We had between 2-3 dozen people coming and going during 2 hours from 2-4. Sorry to hear you were too busy at the bar to engage with with us and keep a more accurate count......maybe next time. You found the website ...perhaps you might find your way across the street to talk in person some time I guess it is easier to watch from the bar than to come over and see who we are. You might be surprised..........
It was a nice day outside in the sunshine ..............I hope you can get out of the bar ........it seems to be having a bad effect on your vision. |

I work across the street as well, in One Main. I'd guess there were around twenty, when I looked
Just an aside, please don't use exclaimatory ellipses (!!!) in the future. They're just so tacky. |

Jack is a liar. I work with him. He was the one who was counting this mess. He was the one who said "I'll give em ten, no more, no less". Again I ask why you see the need to create your numbers. You went out, you protested and nobody cared. I think you should all get jobs or something. |
