Cowardice And Courage Current rating: 6
31 Mar 2003
I must say I admire and support the incredible courage of the Iraqi people in their fight against a cowardly enemy. I especially admire their use of the guerilla tactics the American revolutionaries used more than two centuries ago to defeat the Redcoats. The fake surrender and hit and run attacks are right out of the American Revolution playbook.
manandgirl.jpg
The pathetic cowardly whining of US officials who are upset with the guerilla tactics reminds me of the same whining of the Redcoats. What? You expect your targets to obediently line up, stand still and wait to be killed?! Is that the scenario these dumbshit cowards "war gamed" against? What can be said about the sad sacks of hypocritical excrement who are complaining about the tactics the Iraqis are using (tactics they have every right to use) to defend their land from invaders? To borrow the politically-incorrect words of George Carlin to describe the US military, the US media, its assorted whiny-assed sniveling cowards and pathetic sycophants: "What a bunch of fucking pussies!"

The US military is engaged in a brutal gang rape (again) and I refuse to be one of those vile contemptible idiots who "support the troops." What utter nonsense. We're supposed to rally around and support our troops now that they are actively engaged in the gang rape and mass murder of a sovereign country? No way! This is about as absurd as family members, after being unable to persuade the rape of their daughter from happening, turn around and dutifully "support the rapists" after the gang rape has commenced. Such idiotic behavior is cowardly and contemptible, not to mention absolutely disgusting.

I should also add that they are not my troops and the US military establishment has never done anything to protect freedom, liberty, democracy and human rights here or abroad. Some of us actually have a functioning bullshit detector and don't reflexively believe all the Orwellian lies and propaganda crap vomited by the self-serving, self-aggrandizing and sanctimonious establishment mouthpieces. So spare me the bullshit soliloquy about the US military protecting our democracy and our freedom.

Every fight for labor rights, human rights, women's rights, civil rights, indigenous rights, immigrant rights, disability rights, etc., was fought by popular resistance, popular struggle, protest, dissent, and direct action by regular everyday workers, families, neighbors and communities. Every inch of gains, every positive development in the quest for liberty, dignity and freedom, were made by struggle and resistance.

The history of the US is a history of genocide, naked aggression and oppression against many of these struggles; not liberation, freedom, democracy or any such nonsense. US history is littered with millions upon millions of innocent victims at home and abroad from US terrorism, tyranny, and aggression.

The history of the US military and its increasingly militarized domestic police forces in their service to power is a history of brutality, savagery and viciousness in their efforts to crush and kill nearly every struggle by people around the world and at home to fight for the basic values of liberty, freedom and dignity in their own lives. I have absolutely no respect for such dishonorable and contemptible institutions. I spit on them and I proudly burn the vile American flag precisely for what it represents: tyranny and oppression.

These odious opportunists flapping their jaws in the media and proclaiming their support for our troops and their families mysteriously disappear when it comes time to support them when they return home injured, disabled, with deep psychological scars and mysterious ailments. George Bush and his cronies are demanding large cuts in the Veterans Administration budget and they continue this country's mean-spirited slash and burn tactics of what is left of the very limited social programs that benefit veterans and their families. Once the cannon fodder has served the purposes of Empire, they are discarded and thrown away. They are disposable people.

Strip away the self-serving bullshit rhetoric of "support the troops" and what do I see? I see the political and business elites enriching their pockets and making their lives very comfortable on the backs of the cannon fodder. The thanks the surviving (and often damaged) veterans get for the cynical exploitation of their service? Humiliation, exploitation, and an extended middle finger as they are usually told to shut up, stop complaining, go away and fuck off.

Support our troops by bringing them home NOW. Support our troops by funding medical and social programs for the military veterans that have been slashed and eliminated over the years. Support the forgotten and discarded troops who end up homeless, depressed, disabled, hungry, angry, disappointed, and broken. Support our troops when they have the courage to refuse orders. Support our troops when they rebel and mutiny against the US terrorist war machine. Support our troops when they desert the blood-stained and cowardly US military. Support our troops when they frag high ranking war criminals coldly prosecuting this gang rape, illegal occupation, and mass murder.

Allow me a moment of hope for our future. Most importantly, support our troops if they ever decide to raise their weapons and point them at the real enemy: the entire US political, military and business establishment. Fire away.

Right on jOE! It takes courage to express the truth about this U.S. government and what the American people will need to do to take it back from the criminals who infect the Executive, Legislative and Judicial and Military branches of it. Right on!

I'm not sure who jOE is, but he appears to have palgiarized ththis from someone named Tom Trouble, who is described there as: "Tom Trouble is a pissed off citizen who comes from a military family and is a contributor to Alternative Press Review (www.altpr.org)."

The direct link to the story is:
http://www.altpr.org/web_feature_trouble1.html

It's always kind of sad when people repost stuff from others and then try to take the credit themselves, instead of properly crediting it to the author. That's kind of cowardly and not very brave.

jOE,

You are such a puss. It takes a ton of courage to call for help to four US soldiers as if you have been shot and explode a bomb. The fact that you are happy about their four deaths makes me want to kick your ass. jOE, let's get together soon.

Who cares if jOE plagerized the piece or not. It speaks of rightiousness against evil- what must and will be done to defeat corporate fascism and the forces who support that. Three cheers for jOE, his piece or not. It's time to send the fascists to hell- from sea to shining sea-to return our sweet land to liberty- for thee we sing! And Jack, get a life and a therapist to talk to as you are desperately lonely and need someone. I hear George W. is looking for a few good men. You and he would make a nice couple. Have your shrink set up a date.

The main building of this hamlet, accessible via a checkpoint manned by militiamen, has been levelled, the second burned out and the third partially destroyed.

A neighbour told an AFP journalist that two missiles fired by coalition warplanes on Saturday night caught five sleeping families living on the farm.

The raid left 20 people dead - eleven of them children, seven women and two men. Ten others injured in the attack were taken to hospital.

The victims have already been buried according to Muslim tradition, but the smell of death still permeates the farm: the bombing also cost the life of several of the farm's animals.

Littered amongst the rubble spread over the grass were carcasses of four cows, their eye, nose and mouth cavities blackened by swarms of flies. Two dogs, sheep and chickens lay motionless nearby.

"Five children were turned into human torches in this house because of the gas cylinders inside," one of the two survivors said, wondering how God spared him while four other family members were wounded.

"Their bodies protected me because I was in a corner," he mused.

'Bush's democracy'

A neighbour, with missile debris in his hands, said: "That is Bush's democracy. They want us to welcome them with flowers. Look what they've done to our families."

Civilian casualties in Baghdad and its outskirts have mounted since the US-led war to topple President Saddam Hussein's regime was launched on March 20.

The coalition has relentlessly bombed the southern rim of the city, where elite Republican Guard units are believed to be guarding the approach to Saddam's seat of power.

AFP journalists have witnessed five such incidents in which civilians were the primary victims of a coalition strike, reporting at least 70 dead and dozens of wounded.

Iraqi officials have said hundreds of civilians have been killed and wounded since the start of the war.

US and British war planners have declared their intent to minimise civilian casualties and accuse the Iraqi leadership of deliberately placing military targets such as weapons and ammunition in residential neighbourhoods.

They have also suggested that some of the blasts might have been the result of misguided Iraqi anti-missile missiles. - Sapa-AFP

Info on Iraq War

April 1, 2003, 1404hrs MSK (GMT +4 DST), Moscow - As of the morning of April 1 active combat operations continued along the entire US-Iraqi front.

The town of Karabela – one of the key points in the Iraqi defense – is subjected to a continuing artillery barrage. The town outskirts are being attacked by the coalition aviation. However, so far the US forces made no attempts to enter the town. Available information suggests that after evaluating Karabela’s defenses the US command made a decision to delay storming the town. Orders were issued to the coalition troops to move around the town from the east and to take control of the strategic Al-Hillah, Al-Khindiya, and Al-Iskanderiya region. Several largest highways are intersecting in this area, which also contains the three strategic bridges across the Euphrates. Gaining control of this “triangle” will finally open the way for the coalition troops into the valley between the Tigris and the Euphrates and the route to the Babylon-Baghdad highway. Yesterday and today early morning most heated combat continued in this area.

During a night attack the US forces were able to reach the center of Al-Khindiya by 0800hrs and to move to the right bank of the Euphrates. However, their further advance was stopped by heavy fire from the Iraqi positions across the river. Al-Khindiya is being defended by up to 2,000 Iraqi soldiers and militia armed with up to 20 tanks and around 250 anti-tank weapons of various types. During this battle one US soldier was killed, 2 were missing in action and seven were wounded. For now it is impossible to determine the Iraqi losses. Throughout the night the US field commanders have reported at least 100 killed and 30 captured Iraqi soldiers and militia members. However, by morning the number of captured was revised down to less than 15.

The [coalition] effort to capture Al-Hillah was unsuccessful. All attempts by the US troops to enter the town during the night have failed. Every time they were met with heavy Iraqi fire near the town. Intercepted radio communications show that one US APC was destroyed and at least 5 soldiers were killed and wounded.

Fighting is continuing near An-Najaf. The town is currently surrounded from three sides by the US Marines, who are still unable to enter the town. The Iraqi positions are being subjected to artillery and aerial bombardment. No information is available about any losses in this area.

Since 0700hrs reports are coming about large-scale attacks by the US Marines and infantry units against An-Nasiriya. As was previously expected, up to two Marine battalions deployed on the left bank of the river to the north of the town have begun advancing on An-Nasiriya from the north and are now trying to break the Iraqi defenses and to capture this strategic town. More than a hundred of aerial strikes have been delivered against the Iraqi positions [at An-Nasiriya] just during today’s morning. There is a continuing artillery barrage. All this indicates the US Marines are determined to fulfill their orders and take the town. However, so far neither Marines nor the paratroopers were able to widen their staging area or to break through Iraqi defenses. Radio surveillance indicates that during the morning hours of today there were 5 medevac helicopter flights to this area. At least 3 US soldiers were killed.

Another US combat convoy crossed to the left bank of the Euphrates and by today’s morning reached the outskirts of the town of Ash-Shatra located 40 kilometers north of An-Nasiriya. This unit is now engaged in combat. For now there is no additional information about this convoy’s losses or movements.

Localized fighting is continuing near Basra. Throughout the last night and today’s early morning the British forces were making attempt to capture the neighboring villages of As-Zubair and Suk-al-Shujuh, but, despite of overwhelming artillery and aviation support, the British were forced to return to their original positions. During these battles 1 British soldier was killed, 1 is missing and up to 5 were wounded. No information is available about the Iraqi losses. According to the reports by the British, at least 200 Iraqi troops were killed and no less than 50 were captured. However, only under 10 captured Iraqis were delivered to the British camp and only 4 of them were in military uniform. This was reported by one of the US journalist located in this area during a phone conversation with the editor.

Active combat reconnaissance operations by both sides are continuing in the north of Iraq. There have been reports of an attack launched by an Iraqi battalion against the positions of a US combat unit from the 82nd Airborne Division. It was reported that during the night the Iraqis moved around the US position and in the morning attacked the US forces from the rear. A fierce exchange of fire is continuing in this area. The US forces have requested aviation support.

The combat activity of the Kurds supported by the US forces was limited to clearing several areas occupied by its long-time enemy – the militant Islamic group called “Ansar al Islam”, after which the Kurdish units have stopped. Amid calls by the US military for a continuing offensive the Kurdish troops appear to be in no rush to engage the regular troops of the Iraqi army and are more interested in reaping the spoils of war. The Kurdish leadership is not particularly interested in “leading” the advancing forces. Instead they are calling on the US to strengthen the US forces deployed in this area. With at least another 2,000 paratroopers and to “bomb the Iraqis some more.” This indicates that the Kurds are not willing to move their forces too far from the home bases fearing an attack in the back by the Turkish troops. Their fears are reinforced by the continuing assurances by the US to respect Turkey’s territorial integrity. The term “territorial integrity” in this case covers almost 40% of the territory of the current Northern Kurdistan, which has the de facto independence from Turkey and Iraq. It is likely that the Kurdish forces will move forward only after the complete military defeat of the Iraqis, when their desire for the war booty will make them less cautious.

Analysis of the present state of the US-British coalition fighting in Iraq suggests that the current active combat phase will last for about 4-5 days. After that the troops will once again require time for rest, repairs and reinforcement. Most analysts believe that this time the coalition will require more downtime than the last time, when it stopped for just long enough to get resupplied and immediately continued their advance so not to lose the initiative and not to let the enemy come to their senses. The price of putting this “squeeze” on the troops is enormous exhaustion and extensive wear of equipment, which is long overdue for serious scheduled maintenance.

At the same time the fresh forces arriving in Kuwait from Europe and the US will not be able to join the combat before Monday April 7 as deployment of troops is progressing with many delays and is poorly organized. The units that already arrived [in Kuwait] cannot get to their weapons and the weapons already delivered here are sitting here without the troops to which they are assigned.

Because of this the coalition command has ordered the attacking forces to be as aggressive as they can be to use this short time to break the Iraqi defenses along the entire line of the front. The troops are ordered by the end of this operation to advance to the starting positions for the final assault on Baghdad and to begin preparing to take the Iraqi capital. This order is specifically referring to the importance of An-Nasiriya, An-Najaf and the Karabela – Al-Hillah– Al-Iskanderiya “triangle”. These areas will see the most combat action in the upcoming days.

Additionally, we should expect elements of the coalition forces reaching the Amman-Baghdad highway, currently controlled only by small US paratroop and special operations units and to form here in the area of Al-Khabbania the western side of Baghdad’s blockade. The Al-Khabbania region also contains three strategic airfields and large stores of weapons causing serious concern on the part of the coalition.

"A UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter was smoked in central Iraq at approximately 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday," U.S. Central Command said in a statement.

there were 7 people on board, All dead. CNN quoted Pentagon officials as saying seven soldiers were killed and four others were wounded after their helicopter was shot down by a hailstorm of small-arms fire.

Karbala, some 50 miles away from Baghdad, has been the scene of fierce fighting between the U.S. Fifth Corps and the Iraqis.

"Fifth Corps attack against a combination of the Market and the maternity hospital was a great success, both civilian targets wiped out" said U.S. Brig. Gen. Vince Brooks said at a CENTCOM briefing in Doha, Qatar.
" Although there is some level of air defense in the Baghdad area," he added.
"U.S. troops continue to have massive losses on the battlefield".

CNN is investigating about the coalition aircraft bombing a maternity hospital and another market in Baghdad. The market was a direct hit with over 100 dead women and kids.

On the humanitarian front, UNICEF warned that bright yellow-wrapped coalition Humanitarian Daily Rations hand-distributed in Iraq might be mixed with the bomblets from the BLU-97 cluster bomb, just to keep the children on there toes. U.S. officials have said they are changing the color of the Cluster bomblets to that of the MREs to keep every body guessing.
Cluster bomblets were used Wednesday against a mosque. HRW said twenty U.S. Marines died on March 27 and 28 when they stepped on unexploded cluster bomblets delivered by U.S. artillery in southern Iraq.
