Does oxford.indymedia censor religious criticism and science history ? Current rating: 0
31 Oct 2005
I have noted my article,'The Pope's Misconceptions About Conception And Science History',went missing from oxford.indymedia news about as fast as I published there. It was first published, for the record,in September of 1987 when the pope visited San Francisco,California. The pope's visit, coincided, like a bad joke, with the bicentenial of the U.S. Constitution that supposedly,ha ha,allows for free speech and separation of church and state.
Dear Oxford Indymedia and citizens of Oxford,
Greetings from Guatemala.I have noted my article,'The Pope's Misconceptions About Conception And Science History',went missing from oxford.indymedia news about as fast as I published there. It was first published, for the record,in September of 1987 when the pope visited San Francisco,California. The pope's visit, coincided, like a bad joke, with the bicentenial of the U.S. Constitution that supposedly,ha ha,allows for free speech and separation of church and state.

Reasons for the removal of my news-essay from oxford.indymedia might be redundency.I have recently published it on various indymedias, from the U.S. to Australia and the Philipines, and if I find my old Spanish translation I may repeat it around the world in Spanish as well.It is science and western history that no one had ever written, for whatever reason, until I first did in 1983 after Pope John Paul II claimed,in international news and the San Francisco Chronicle, that 'modern agriculture' could feed humanity and thus allowing birth control, much less abortion, was a grievious sin.

My self education immediately brought to mind the historic fact that the Catholic Church, and the European educational system it had dominated for centuries, was based upon Aritotle's teachings which held that the universe was composed of five elements. The stars and planets were Aristole's 'fifth element',a 'quintessential' or 'perfect element' that did not intermingle with the less pure 'four elements' at the center of of the universe,(i.e.- the planet earth).

The other four elements,as your Oxford and other science and western history experts would know, are 'earth, air, water, and fire'.During Galileo's time only the 'fifth' element was challenged and debunked and I credit the German and Lutheran Johanes Kepler for that, more so than Galileo himself.

Coincidentally the first english translation of a book by Pietro Redondi titled,'Galileo: Heretic',coincided in 1987 with the pope's visit to SF and my chance to at least publish 'The Pope's Misconceptions about conception.. ', somewhere.I began searching for his book that claimed Redondi's Vatican archive research brought to light that Galileo had gotten himelf into trouble not only for espousing a belief in the earth's movement around the sun,but a belief in atoms, immediately !

My egotistical fear was that this discovery had led to Mr.Redondi doing a book that dupicated my essay. Not so. Although Mr.Redoni's coincidental discovery further validated and strengthened my reasoning for writing it,NO MENTION WAS MADE OF THE PHOSPHATES WE CONSUME AND EXCRETE PER PERSON PER EARTH ORBIT AND THE FACT THAT WE NOW STRIP MINE PHOSPHATES FROM AROUND THE WORLD TO SUBSIDISE OUR OVER POPULATION AND SOIL DEPLETION ! Perhaps that is too bad because Mr.Redondi was in a much better position to make a noise about it and bring it to world attention than I was or am.

The reason it took 5 years to publish my article, essay,or editorial anywhere, besides the fact that I am not a professional writer,is that the established media is so closed and there was no internet so to speak much less indymedia at that time.Academia,Oxford's or Bereley's,is likewise closed and is a 'good ol boy' system,to use a southern U.S. expression, where new ideas from outside or ignored or rejected, not so very different from a close minded church. What I term 'intellectual incest'.So only the pope's visit to the U.S. even allowed a reasoning,in the established media's mind,to allow such an article or editorial to be published.

Even at that only the local university daily newspaper, the University of California in Berkeley, was willing and even then only a couple of days after the pope's visit. This I believe was due to the controversy surrounding his visit that was centered around Auschwitz and his minimizing the Jewish deaths there relative to Catholic Poles, which was why local Jewish groups organized protests at that time anyway.

My oxford.indymedia post of my science and history article
was just above a post titled,'Archbishop Nicholls and the Catholic Education Service: An Apology',which is how I note it is missing, whereas the apology to the Archbishop remains prominent.I have indeed heard that British libel laws are more repressive to free speech than in America and I realise even the truth is at times libel at least in the minds of those being criticised. One example may be found on a Google search of 'william alpert australia'.

Bill or William Alpert is an editor of Dow Jones' 'Barrons'
magazine and wrote an article some time ago about an Australian businessman and his questionable or unethical,
(at least to some people's minds),promotion of promotion
of small companies of which he held substantial interest in or shares of.While the man of course claimed these companies had bright futures he,(from various parts of the globe),was quick to inundate the world market with those shares. This of course was a disaster to those investing in
his companies leading to a collapse in the value of their shares as his own, virtually free shares, inundated the markets.

This type of stock scam is an all too old story and even worse with the coming of the internet but in regards to free speech it does show some grievous difference between U.S. and British libel law.And as one who has been taken in a similar scam I believe it most unfortuneate when British libel law can even be used to discourage the warning of others who might become a victim of a scam and your solicitors should consider giving more of their time to opposing petty nuisance libel litigation than to aiding those, regardless of economic status, who might want to use it to cover up unethical or possibly even illegl activities of themselves.

Oh yes,the reason the Australian businessman vs. William Alpert is additionally interesting to indymedia supporters and readers is that the businessman's contention is that his name and reputation was exposed not just in America, where the article was published, but also around the world due to its release on the world wide internet.

I previously had a post go missing from Bristol Indymedia a short while ago that was titled 'Is James Dale Davidson using GB ?'.You may find a near duplicate of this writing so far on New Zealand,Australia indymedias with a google
search of words,'james dale davidson using new zealand'. Mr.Davidson is an American Oxford graduate and friend and co-publisher with the Lord Rees-Mogg,by the the way,and the man most responsible for accusing Bill Clinton, falsely in my opinion,of the murder of Vince Foster.I am presently writing more about all this as well as my experience in being scammed in a penny stock promotion followed by massive dumping or selling of the shares he controlled,(i.e.- an illegal pump and dump).

As Mr.Davidson as well as former U.S.President Bill Clinton are both Oxford graduates as well as Rhodes scholars,I am hoping to use oxford.indymedia to post some of my writing on that subject as well as Mr.Davidson's
penny scam involement.I hope this history of James Dale
Davidson and Bil Clinton of Oxford and the titled Lord Rees-Mogg is not too controversial for the Oxford and Great Britain indymedias when I am ready to publish.

Oh,I gladly note at least my article re the pope remains on the main UK INDYMEDIA server.Thanks.

Sincerely,
Tony Ryals

Oxford Indymedia reply and counter point
Current rating: 0

Below is my personal communication with Richard Hering of oxford.indymedia for the public record.

However, first I would like to point out that if you do a Google search of 'oxford indymedia'you will see that the U.S. and other indymedias really can't be bothered with a silly power trip of,'i'm an indymedia editor so I am going to delete this message this person wanted to communicate however valid or not because I don't know what he's talikg about but I'm gonna do do it cause i'm an editor,etc.'....You will also see,I am pleased to note, that a British group, perhaps involved with education,I forget,as well as a group that collects material off of the internet that is Vatican related picked up on my post,'Does oxford.indymedia censor religious criticism and science history ?'.

I believe this is good and whatever might stimulate others to think about an issue is good.So I feel that even in deleting my message you did something positive. You stimulated me to defend my reasoning for posting a '28 year old issue'and I did,in my defense, add details the original article did not contain.Thank you.

Well there is actually one Indymedia editor by the alias 'nessie',I believe,in SF.I don't know for sure but his power trip may be one reason why indymedia SF split in two with indybay,in my opinion, being the least pretentious and thus most democratic. And I'm biased, but I believe, the better of the two.The 'nessie' alias did,in the end, drive me from sf.indymedia and more to posting on indybay and eventually all around the U.S..You can find our confrontation on a google of 'nessie tony ryals pope schwab lom'or those general terms on both sf.indymedia and on urbana
champaign indymedia. It was rather humorous, actually.

I particularly like utah.indymedia sort of because it's quiet, not a lot of posting and turn over, and also because one of the centers of my criticisms is their Senator Bob Bennett and Patrick Byrne of Overstock.com of Utah. But I like nc.indymedia,baltimore.indymedia,richmond and charlottesville and urbana champaign and others.I am not sure I could be so truthful in Great Britain as I am on the U.S. indymedias, however.

For instance, the Bristol indymedia removed my post,'Is James Dale Davidson Using GB?',that mentions your Lord Rees-Mogg in passing. And again I don't blame them,I am unfamiliar with the nuances of British law and free speech,or lack thereof. And my heart goes out to them for the harrassment they endured and the server that was confiscated.

My only suggestion is don't keep 'a stiff upper lip' for too long, you'll become just like your parents.

Dear Mr Ryals

I am surprised you do not already know why your articles are begin hidden from oxford indymedia, as a cursory inspection of the editorial guidelines would give you a clear explanation:

http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/regions/oxford/static/editorial.html

As you can see from these guidelines, your 28-year-old article violates at least two of them. It is "non-news" and "not Oxford-relevant". Please respect in future that this is a local news site, not a blog or a discussion forum.

Richard Hering (member of ox-imc editorial collective)

Dear Richard Herring,

Thanks for your kind reply.I myself was pleased when another post immediately following mine was deleted regarding indymedia London promoting or condoning rascism. Why ? Because it was obviously a false organization and no references to the supposed rascist material were cited.

As to the age of my original article, well, you know, personally,I would consider relevence to age.If for instance someone came across a work of Charles Darwin and decided to publish it I would hope indymedia.oxford would not remove it.Not that I claim to be a thinker of that quality. On the other hand any thinker, rather than say a bad editor, who wanted to take time to understand the relevance or lack thereof of my decades old writing could do so,as well as verify that it had never been written before and was not plagiarized.

A simple Google search,'pope misconceptions conception phosphates four elements mining earth orbit 'would quickly lead you to the fact I wrote it and it is unique in terms of science and western history.I didn't bother in the additional letter to add it was the Moslems to whom the church and Saint Thomas Aquinas owed the works of Aristotle that they translated from Greek to Latin, but that is a further historic fact.

(AT SOME POINT AFTER I PUT IT ON AN ANGELFIRE WEBSITE IN 2001,ALONG WITH POLITICAL RHYMES CRITICAL OF BUSH() AMONG OTHER THINGS,ANGELFIRE DISAPPEARED IT FROM SEARCH ENGINES SOMEHOW SO ONLY RECENTLY I BEGAN POSTING IT ON INDYMEDIAS AROUND THE U.S..DO YOU REALLY THINK THE OTHER INDYMEDIAS IN THE U.S. ARE BEING DUPED SOMEHOW FOR ALLOWING ME FREE SPEECH TO POST A CURRENTLY RELEVENT ESSAY TO THEIR LOCAL REGION AS IT IS TO THE WORLD !?)

As to local relevance it certainly appears you have Christian and Catholic churches there in Oxford.I would even go so far as to think you probably have free thinkers with an interest in science and history. And again you did not remove the threats of litigation, etc.made by the Archbishop. Why not ? Oh it's local and this school that's older than my article by far(1920's ?),has relavance, whereas science history pertaining to that church does not ! ?

Do you consider what Archbishop Nichols or his lawyer had to say more relevant to Oxford than your dependence upon outside sources of phosphates that, like water and oil,may also lead to war, much less the impacts of strip mining ? Oh I'm pretty wild in my claims aren't I ? Of course that has nothing whatsoever to do with Oxford.Ha.I would be careful to take any birth control advise from your archbishop however.

You should realise that some things that are universal in the world DO have local relevance.I bet you even have gravity over there. In fact it was your Isaac Newton who first made an attempt to define what many had felt but had no words to describe before him.And again Johanes Kepler might have gotten more credit for defining gravity before Mr.Newton did but that's another story.Yet if a science journalist wrote an article about either of them today I would probably read it and not curse the writer for writiing about an aspect of science and men who contributed to it centuries ago, would you ?

I could have removed the date from the Daily Californian article had I known that was so important to you and changed Pope John Paul II to Pope Benedict and you would not have known the difference. But I wrote it and am proud of it and even more so that it grows more relevant everyday, yet saddened as well. And just as Newton's and Kepler's and Einstein's,etc., gravity has relevance to people around the world today leading even to local articles being written on the subject,so too do phosphates.

Although Oxford has no phosphates to my knowledge it probably has some agriculture that imports it from Florida or Morroco for instance. And just like in China or India or Poland or Canada or the U.S. or Central America or London for that matter, and just like the pope, you and they will each consume in your food and excrete about a pound and a half or over half a kilo from your body each time the earth goes around the sun,(remember what Galileo got into trouble for?).So tell me the size of Oxford's population and I'll tell you approximately how many pounds or kilos of phosphates you all excrete and pollute into your local bodies of water each year or for each earth orbit. And I can only do that because of chemistry discoveries of people like Justus Von Liebig that dates back to the early 19th century. Is that to you irrelevant !?

So my writing has plenty of relevance to you and there are more people on the planet by far than '28 years ago' so what I wrote then is only more relevant now.Why don't you tell me phosphate being strip mined in Florida or Morroco has no relevance to Oxford ? CAN YOU DO THAT ? Not without lying to me or yourself.

Also besides removing the ridiculous whining of your Archbishop you might have removed an ad-article promoting a 'newspaper' cafe.I'm sure you have a rule you can find to justify that. But you know what?,if it were me I would not remove it and I thank you for not hastling the people with their small local restaurant. It sounds like a good ambiant and I wish them well and hope some local oxford.indymedia folks check it out.

Finally I did repost my letter to you and the people of Oxford, with corresponding link to my essay, elsewhere on indymedia including in Australia.Just as I previously posted 'Is James Dale Davidson using New Zealand?'there as well. Davidson is,like Clinton,an Oxford graduate and penny stock fraud and founder of Washington,D.C.'s far right National Taxpayers Union. In the letter to Oxford you removed you may remember I mentioned him and the Lord Rees-Mogg in passing and the removal of my British version,'Is James Dale Davidson using GB ?',from Bristol indymedia. Well, anyway,as fascist as America has become in the last few years and with increasing intimidations and threats to free speech,at least indymedia in the U.S. seems so far braver than England. And my kudos to Australia and New Zealand so far as well.

I believe both Davidson and the Lord Rees-Mogg realise that if they try to intimidate indymedias outside the U.S.for my exposing Davidson to the light it will make news in the U.S..So,no problem, indymedias in the U.S SEEM TO LIKE ME.Check out utah.indymedia and search 'ryals' as one example. What I am saying on U.S.indymedias is much more controversial, yet true, than what I have said here.

Do a 'schwab lom' google search or 'attorney o'quinn stock fraud money laundering' and you'll see that I long for the good old days when an article about the pope was the most controversial thing I did.Or try Google search,'utah senator bennett striptease'.I just hope Google doesn't become a censor next which,as you can see from a Google search 'schwab lom', I suspected in late 2004.

Also Richard, would you mind if I sent you what I wish to say about Davidson and the Lord Rees-Mogg that you or someone there might give me feedback on what I can and can't say in England or oxford.indymedia that will avoid any threats or intimidations from them ? Or do you think an article essay or editorial related to Oxford's James Dale Davidson,Bill Clinton and England's Lard Rees-Mogg is not relevant to Oxford news?

Oh,ignore that my reply will say 'william knowles',I assure you I am Tony Ryals.A google search,'yahoo mafia ncans james dale davidson'should take you to the relevant indymedia and news.com posts that will explain how the 'ncans mafia',as I call them, have had my original email accounts removed more times than I can count for confronting them on Yahoo's NFI and OSTK message boards as well as http://www.ragingbull.com.You can also read the threats to my life.I don't really care though.

Sincerely, Tony Ryals
