I am writing in response by "Officer in Leavenworth". I disagree and feel that as an officer of Leavenworth that you are biased in the things you said about Tommy . Maybe its because of the "brotherhood" of CO's - you feel that its discrespectful to the memory of the officer that died, but how long must he pay for his crimes? Serial killers, rapists and even child molesters get better treatment than Tommy does.
Maybe he does have his own tv. Maybe he does get art supplies-although I doubt all that he needs. He might even have his own exercise equipment, probably used and beat up, but at what price? He is in solid isolation-shouldn't he have some priveledges as others locked up? What about the things that he doesn't have other than his freedom ... the lack of privacy for instance. How far can he go, by himself in his tiny cell? What could he possibly do that his keepers, such as yourself, feel that he needs his lights on 24/7 and denied the simplest of things such as a shower curtain? He also may be able to see the light of day, but the window is so far up that daylight is the only thing he does see.
He's a gifted self taught artist and his artwork is brilliant and beautiful. The BOP may supply him with his art supplies, but he is prohibited from selling any of his artwork for profit, so how can anyone bitch about tax dollars??
I just found out that Tommy has been moved to Colorado with no incidents. So how can you make the statements you have and still have a conscious? You say he is an evil man. Have you taken a good long hard look in the mirror lately? What is your REAL reason for becoming a correctional officer?? Did you get into this profession to make a difference or just to see the mistreatment of your fellow man. And if your job has really hardened your heart so much that you have NO compassion in the treatment of others, whether they are wrong or right, then isn't it time to change jobs?
The Tommy that I know, is far from the animal that you and people like you have made him out to be. He is a sweet, kind, funny man who has shown remorse for the things that has happened, and I am happy and proud to call him my friend. |
