I just saw the A&E program and was so disturbed to see that Tommy Silverstein is being denied his basic human rights.
Yes, he took a life and for that he should be punished. But to isolate him, deny him of human contact, to subject him to blaring lights 24/7, to take away his basic hygiene (i.e. no comb, razor, etc.), along with all of the other violations is sickening. Don't for one minute think that I approve or justify his crime. But is the life he took more valuable than the lives of any of the thousands of lives that are taken every day? This isn't about justice, it's about revenge. The system that has incarcerated him, has become no better then the people they punish. |
