Silverstein is no angel, however I do not feel that the punishment fits the crime. It goes beyond harsh. There are people who have commited far worse crimes, and he is not the only inmate to have ever killed a guard. I think Silverstein has been subjected to cruel and unusual punishment. I can't fathom the psychological effects this has had on him. Chances are that if Silverstein were to be integrated back into the prison population he would be an even worse monster than he was before, as a result of his probable stunted socialization skills. It must have been a twisted individual who came up with such an evil and rediculous punishment. |
