TAMPA, Fla. (10-20-2) - A Florida doctor accused of planning to blow up Islamic centers and mosques is competent to stand trial, a federal judge ruled on Friday. |

Robert Goldstein, 37, a podiatrist, was arrested in August after police and federal agents found several high-powered guns and 20 bombs in his home near St. Petersburg.
They said Goldstein had a list of 50 Islamic centers and mosques in Florida and a detailed plan for attacking an Islamic school. Goldstein's attorney said after his arrest he had a history of emotional problems and the alleged plot was probably a fantasy.
U.S. Magistrate Thomas McCoun ruled that Goldstein was mentally competent after Goldstein had been examined by a psychiatrist. No trial date was set.
In September, Samuel Shannahan, a licensed gun dealer, was arrested and charged with illegally giving Goldstein five weapons. |
