On Thursday the FCC authorized the go-ahead for new digital radio stations using a system known as In-Band On-Channedl (IBOC). These stations could go on the air in a matter of months. To accomodate these new digital signals the FCC also doubled the amount of space each station will take up on the dial.
Christopher Maxwell has been tirelessly charting the rise of IBOC and the interference it will cause on the FM dial. On Friday's mediageek radio show Maxwell will talk about the problems with IBOC and how it might blot out some of your favorite radio stations. |
Tune in to mediageek Fridays at 5:30 PM on Community Radio WEFT 90.1 FM. Right now WEFT is in the middle of its pledge drive, so also call in to support the type of critical news and analysis you can hear only on WEFT.
The mediageek radio show is archived on-line at the mediageek website, so you can still hear it if you miss tuning in on Fridays. This Friday's show should be on-line by Monday. |
