Since most of you appear to be unmoved by the ongoing vicious racist attacks by the Zionist forces against Muslim and Christian Arabs (as you doubtless view us as less than fully human), perhaps reading that your Zionist allies are attacking Jewish New Yorkers will move you

MEMBERS OF ny JEWISH GROUP ATTACKED BY ISRAELI MILITARY IN WEST BANK
Jews Against the Occupation condemns Israeli army beatings & arrests of peaceful protesters

NEW YORK – Members of Jews Against The Occupation (JATO), alongside Palestinian non-violent organizers, were attacked by the Israeli army today as they staged a peaceful demonstration in the Palestinian town of Huwwara, near Nablus.

Members of Jews Against the Occupation were assaulted by Israeli soldiers who punched them and pushed them over a steep cliff. One Jewish-American woman was stripped of her shirt by a soldier, and sustained physical injuries as she tumbled down the cliff. Another American citizen was knocked unconscious during her fall. In contravention of international law, Israeli soldiers left the injured civilians at the scene without medical assistance.

The Israeli army arrested New Yorker Adam Shapiro, who was documenting the attack on video (footage available), and several Palestinian marchers. JATO members present at the demonstration report that all arrested were peaceful marchers who had violated no law, aside from the symbolic breaking of curfew.

The demonstration, a joint effort between Palestinians and international human rights activists, protested the crippling curfew imposed by the Israeli military across the West Bank since June. Palestinian and international organizers had explicitly stated that the march would be
non-violent.

The Israeli military attacked the procession of 200-300 Palestinians and 50 internationals without warning, firing tear gas canisters, sound grenades and live ammunition.

Dispersing marchers were attacked a second time by Israeli soldiers as they returned to their village, in spite of Israeli army assurances that they would be provided safe passage if they dispersed. Israeli soldiers again physically assaulted the civilians, arresting and detaining five French citizens and several Palestinians.

All those arrested are still in police detention at Ariel settlement.

Jews Against the Occupation condemns the Israeli military’s brutal attacks and detentions of non-violent marchers – those which occurred today outside Nablus, and those which have occurred throughout the Occupation. JATO stands with Palestinians in their demand for human and civil rights. This includes the right to non-violent resistance – which has consistently been curtailed by the Israeli government and military.

Louisa Solomon, a member of Jews Against The Occupation and New Yorker who was injured by Israeli soldiers this morning, can be reached in the West Bank at 011-972-56-710-650.
