Attack of the Democratic Drones Current rating: 0
20 May 2002
http://www.newsmax.com/commentarchive.shtml?a=2002/5/17/133245
This past week the Democratic leadership reminded me once again why I am not a Democrat. We have Tom Daschle and Dick Gephardt kvetching and doing their best Mr. Magoo and hindsight-is-20/20 impression.

Daschle has the gall to say he was "gravely concerned" about the failure of the Bush administration to take a general warning about airline hijacking back in July of 2001 seriously enough – as if it were a direct warning of impending disaster.

Where was Tom's concern after the first attack on the WTC in New York? Where was his concern about stemming the tide of Middle Eastern men and fund raising going on in the U.S. for terrorist groups in the Middle East?

Where was his concern as thousands of foreign students came to this country on visas and then disappeared?

Why didn't Tom and his cronies end immigration from foreign states that sponsor, support or harbor terrorists or terrorism?

What did Tom, Clinton and Gephardt do about terrorism against the U.S. when it was a fait accompli in the first attack in New York? Come to think of it, where was Tom when Clinton bombed a camel and an aspirin factory after the Khobar Towers massacre? Where were Tom and Dick and Bill when the USS Cole disaster killed our service people?

Where was Tom when the military was being feminized and neuterized and downsized? Where was he as the military was gutted under Bill Clinton?

Where was Tom when the intelligence community was being hamstrung and our federal police agencies were being empowered to chase Branch Davidians while the impending WTC first attack in New York was in the offing?

Where was Tom when our military was being forced to don the apparel of a foreign supranational entity, i.e., the United Nations? Where was Tom when our military and intelligence communities were being demoralized and hung out to dry by the corrupt leader of his own party – William Jefferson Clinton?

Tom Daschle wastes his time and ours with his phony baloney concern and second-guessing what Bush knew or didn't know pre-9/11. If Daschle and Gephardt are not two of the biggest fools and clowns that have ever held Office, you couldn't tell it by me.

The defanging of the military and intelligence organizations was accelerated under Bill Clinton. What did Daschle and Gephardt do to stop the disintegration? Perhaps they were too busy creating more lockboxes for social welfare programs – programs that would be useless if this country is devastated by repeated terrorist attacks.

Daschle and the Dems have long since forgotten what the prime directive of gvovernment is – to defend and protect. It is not to make sure there are enough limousines to go around for everyone on the Hill.

Meanwhile, this week Dick Gephardt asks, "Was there a failure of intelligence? Did the right officials not act on the intelligence in the proper way? These are the things we need to find out."

No, Dick, what you need to find out is why your party did not demand that Bill Clinton give his full attention to terrorism after the first attack on the WTC, the bombing of the Khobar Towers, the bombings of our embassies in Africa, and the mayhem and murder inflicted aboard the USS Cole.

How these two party hacks have the guts to second-guess Bush pre-9/11 after their own failure to oversee what Bill Clinton was or was not doing is pathological. Schizoid is too kind a word for these two politicians who are doing nothing but looking for media attention as they run for president in 2004. Since they have no shame, they would probably blame Bush for the USS Cole as well.

At one time the Democrats were a more or less sensible bunch of men and women. They were basically pro-American and pro-Western civilization and some of them even had a lock on common sense. It was a political party that had the capability to look critically at a problem and not weigh it at every chance in some ideological or party context.

However, like most of our institutions, the Democratic Party got trampled by the rush to climb on the bandwagon of various movements and isms of the '60s. All kinds of novel trends and postures were adopted by the party that used to be home to some pretty decent intellects with some fairly sound ideas.

But the Dems dumped the intellect, good ideas, Americanism and common sense in order to expand the power of the state using the ideas that came out of the leftward cultural drift of the U.S. in the '60s.

Identity politics replaced concerns over the rights of the individual over the state. Frightening old folks about their future replaced looking for ways to allow old folks to keep more of their hard-earned money. The Democrats also bought into the last safe place for Marxism, the empty scam that environmentalism has become.

The Democrats lost faith in America's greatness and pandered to its lowest common denominator. Democrats were eaten up and consumed by the counterculture left. They drove out anyone who did not buy into the guild of grievance collectors and grasping classes.

The Democrats became the party of abortion and continually promoted public policies that help to destabilize and deconstruct the American family. They did it by pandering to the identity politics of radical feminists and gays. They did it mostly through the immoral imposition of anti-family taxes, educational and cultural policies, and imposition of sociological and secular humanist tools in order to remake society.

The Democrats turned like a junkyard dog on part of their old base and became adept at overtly and covertly demonizing orthodox Christians.

I don't find it all that surprising that the "tolerant" left, the backbone of the Democratic Party, castigates Israel and winks at the shenanigans on college campuses as Jews are compared to Nazis. Where was Democratic outrage when universities were producing mind fascists the last 25 years?

It is pretty obvious that Democrats don't care because they feel right at home in such places. Stats show that approximately 89 percent of college professors vote for Democrats. Meanwhile, political correctness and the mind Gestapo make sure no conservative or Republican is welcome on a college campus.

The Democrats are right at home and see nothing wrong with any of this. Obviously, the leftist apple does not fall far from the collectivist tree.

It makes me hunger for the old-time Democrats of Truman and Kennedy and Adlai Stevenson. Even the mouth of Minnesota, Hubert Humphrey, is looking pretty good in comparison to Daschle and Gephardt and the modern Democratic Party. At least those Democrats of yesteryear had the ability to think beyond leftist/collectivist ideology and the party line in order to objectively see problems and ponder solutions.

Hardly anyone questioned Stevenson's or Kennedy's honor or patriotism or their love of America. That was because it was obvious to everyone, even conservative Republicans, where their hearts were. The same can't be said of the Democratic Party today.

For the Dems, somewhere along the line honor and integrity was replaced by the ends justifying the means. The Democrats became the party of spin, triangulation and lying.

Democrats refuse to believe that any policy they instituted may need reform. Whether it is purposeful blindness or willful failure, the failure to institute commonsense policy reforms makes the Democratic Party look more and more like the ideologues they have become.

With no new ideas or vision, they go through their ritualistic knee-jerk "Let's pass a bill, create another department and throw some money at it and call Republicans names for not responding quickly enough." The Dems set the agenda and Republicans merely respond.

Democrats castigate Republicans about education, the environment, pensions, Social Security and prescription drugs. Same old stuff. Meanwhile, Democrats totally refuse to admit to the failure of public education regardless of the money thrown at it.

They watch as their darlings in the environmental movement fill government positions with agenda-driven scientists promoting politicized policies. The "party of the people" has been in no small part responsible for the continued slide and demise of rural America.

Recently, they catered to their elitist, designer-hiking-boot friends as they voted not to allow drilling in Alaska's ANWR. They prefer a stupid environmental policy that makes no environmental sense, because it is almost a religious issue with their green constituency.

I wonder how long before unions catch on to the fact that the Democrats care more for the rich Greens than for the blue-collar worker. By refusing to allow drilling in ANWR, the Democrats are making us more dependent on dictators in the Middle East.

While they offer no firm energy solutions to our absolute need for energy independence, they are truly endangering every American by their pandering to a bunch of quasi-earth worshippers. Their best policy, however, is to raise taxes on the "rich" because they understand that a small percentage are paying most of the taxes. They have the chutzpah to call it "fair."

To the average Democrat, Social Security reform is greeted as if it were a fire in the congressional dining room and there was only one exit. While they created the mess that is Social Security, they are working diligently to create another by instituting prescription drug plans for seniors. Surely, they can't be so dumb as to not realize that they are bankrupting the future and placing an impossible burden on the children they say they care about.

What they in fact are doing is creating a class of tax slaves, and by so doing they will kill a healthy and growing economy and take the heart out of the productive and intelligent individuals who are only trying to improve their lot. Democrats refuse to see that a nation of people being taxed to death only drives the producers to places where they can keep their hard-earned money.

As Fox News reports, retiring House Majority Leader Dick Armey, R-Texas, stated recently:

"You have to understand the Democrats have no agenda. The majority in the other body is driven by a combination of incompetence and malevolence, and all they stand for is stopping whatever we try to accomplish in this presidency," Armey said.

Asked what he means by malevolence, Armey said Democrats are malevolent toward "anybody who wants to do reform in public policy and get better results in people's lives." The operative words are "reform in public policy."

In fact, the Democrats remind me of Mrs. Winchester. She was the old lady who kept building her house until she died. It has stairs that go nowhere, hundreds of rooms, some with no corners. It is a house that was planned with no rhyme or reason except the eccentricities of one old lady. She did this because she believed that if she stopped she would die.

The Democrats just can't stop building government even when there is no sense to it anymore. Even when the stairs go nowhere and the rooms are odd angles and full of musty cobwebs and the place is unlivable.

Because they can't or won't stop, they attack Republicans who try to slow the madness down.

Actually, the Democrats have little to complain about. As far as I am concerned, the Republicans have all but handed the Democrats every single item on their statist/collectivist agenda and then some. From campaign finance reform to the education mess, they got it all.

The Democrats remind me of a spoiled kid who gets the red Ferrari but whines and moans that it has leather seats when he really wanted alligator.

An old joke says that the two most dangerous things in the world are a loaded pulpwood truck on a downgrade in the Rockies and a Democrat in search of an issue to beat up Republicans with.

Just this week the Democrats have taken the loaded pulpwood truck approach to electioneering and governing. This week they carp and moan about nasty Republicans or Bush not having the knowledge of the Almighty pre-9/11, while they fail to offer one decent idea or reform.

If the Democrats ever got smart, they would turn and look at the monster they created and stop feeding it. They would stop the mad building of an increasingly structurally unsound building.

But since they have no new ideas or solutions to our foreign or domestic problems, they will continue to bribe the grievance collectors and grasping class, thus buying their continued allegiance. The house that the Democrats are constructing in government policy can't sustain itself without killing taxes and command and control, which never works for long.

Meanwhile, their leadership, Tom Daschle and Dick Gephardt, pretend that they weren't around when our foreign policy and intelligence capability were going to hell on an express train.

Republicans? They are showing some signs of improving their strategy and tactics. As they become more aggressive and combative, they will find Democrats scattering as quickly as al Qaeda in Afghanistan. For instance, in South Dakota, grassroots organizations are taking out ads to portray Daschle and his buddy Tim Johnson as the leftists and obstructionists they truly are.

Wish the GOP had done that a lot sooner and on a much broader scale. Dakotans are proving that waiting around for Republican leadership to start punching and fighting may require a long wait.

Don Rumsfeld and Condoleezza Rice and a few other administration spokesmen are doing a fair job of stopping the worst of the Democratic attacks. Now let's hope that President Bush finally takes the gloves off and stops pretending that bipartisanship is anything but a pipe dream that works in Texas but fails when you cross the beltway in Washington, D.C.

The president has the opportunity granted to few people. He can help begin the desperately needed change in direction of this nation. But he has to find the courage to take the slings and arrows that will undoubtedly come his way.

Meanwhile, the Democrats will be throwing the first rocks, never paying heed to their own sins of seeking selfish party interests over national safety, security and freedom.
