Nation’s First September 11 Novel Is Released; Chicago Author to Appear at Champaign, IL Barnes & Noble on March 30
"Beyond Stone and Steel: A Memorial to the September 11, 2001 Victims," Brian W. Vaszily’s timely and moving first novel, has been released in high quality trade print by Hard Shell Word Factory, a Wisconsin-based publisher. This is the nation’s first book of fiction related to the September 11 attacks, with proceeds going to charity, and is available through online and retail bookstores nationwide, including Barnes & Noble and Amazon.com.
"I started writing Beyond Stone and Steel on September 13 in order to cope with the horror of September 11," says Vaszily. "I needed to connect with the human element beyond all the images of exploding and crushed stone and steel. It may sound trite, but I worked day and night on writing this book, to the point where my wife was concerned for my own health. Upon completing the first draft, I knew I had something not only worth sharing with the world, but perhaps necessary to share."
"'Beyond Stone and Steel: A Memorial to the September 11, 2001 Victims' is a memorial in that it honors the 3,000 human beings who were killed, but it is for the living," Vaszily continues. "Its ultimate purpose is to help readers recognize, through the memory of what really mattered in the lives of the victims, what is truly important in their own lives, and move on to pursuing that."
Because those killed could have been any of us, "Beyond Stone and Steel" delves into the lives of a wide swath of imagined characters representing those victims. Rendered through each phase of that tragic Tuesday – Flight 175 as it is about to depart Boston, Flight 11 as it is nearing Manhattan, the World Trade Center towers and Pentagon before and after the attacks, etc. – and via the victims’ final thoughts, memories, and the greater significance of their seemingly commonplace actions, the book tells the story of what was most noteworthy about each of these people: their loves, hopes, dreams and achievements. The overall story of "Beyond Stone and Steel" is, therefore, about what is most noble in all of us, what truly matters, and by extension, how fortunate we are to live in a nation that, unlike any other, grants us the right to pursue our desires. More simply put, it is about how precious and important each of our lives is.
Brian Vaszily will read, discuss and sign copies of "Beyond Stone and Steel: A Memorial to the September 11, 2001 Victims" at Barnes & Noble Bookstore, 65 East Marketview Drive, Champaign, IL on Saturday, March 30, from 2-4pm.
Vaszily has had fiction and non-fiction published in various magazines, newspapers and a book anthology. "Beyond Stone and Steel" is his first published book. Fifty-percent of the publisher’s proceeds will go to various September 11 charities, while fifty-percent of the author’s proceeds will go to the Families of Freedom Scholarship FundTM, a college fund spearheaded by Bill Clinton and Bob Dole that will benefit victims’ children based on their financial need.
"Beyond Stone and Steel" is available in trade paperback ($10–ISBN: 0-7599-0512-6) from retail and online bookstores including Borders, Barnes & Noble, and Amazon.com, and the Hard Shell Word Factory’s site, www.hardshell.com. It is also available now as an eBook download ($5.00) in all popular file formats at Amazon.com, hardshell.com, www.peanutpress.com, and many other sites. |

this is spam. if this novel is so necessary to share with the world, why doesn't the author post the full text on the web for free and send a link to the IMC, rather than offering it only as a for-sale commodity? |

Considering that we are dealing with a work of fiction, and this being a news site, this article certainly "borders"on advertising. Book reviews and announcements of events are cool, but adding in prices and suggestions to try online booksellers and e-book providers is too much like advertising for my taste. |
