It's not over yet! The latest on the Save our Trees Campaign Current rating: 0
22 Mar 2001
The media is leading us to believe that the fight is over with Illinois Power. Dont trust IP yet- we can't let our guards down. They have every intent to rewrite a proposal, and they have yet to collaborate with the citizens.
Yes, IP withdrawing the tariff is good news. However, it will be to our disadvantage if this move dismantles our efforts in this campaign. We need to make sure that Illinois Power follows through with their PLEDGE to work with the IP Customers United to Save Our Trees.

It is our job to make the following happen accordingly:

-IP actually withdraws the plan in 10 days or less.
- IP contacts IPCUTSOT to make arrangements for negotiations.
- IP does not carry on with negotiations with the city intervenors behind our back.
- IP rewrites the tariff with language that serves the intersts of the citizens group.
-IP continues to feel the strong oppositional presence of its customers and city government.

The withdrawal of the plan is a PR tactic that IP is using to revamp their image and draw out the process so the movement will lose steam. We cant let this happen! Stay engaged!

Contact me if you would like to get involved in the IP Customers United to Save Our Trees. (217)384-0830.

We still need people to sign petitions in support of the Save Our Trees Campaign. Drop by Strawberry Fields in Urbana or the Illinois Student Environmental Network at 110 South Race St. on the corner of Main St., Urbana.
