This weekend, Boardman's Art Theatre is hosting a special encore screening of the 2005 Full Frame Documentary Film Festival's Audience Award winning film, "The Education of Shelby Knox". This film first debuted in Champaign earlier this year, and has been brought back due to popular demand. After the screening, you are invited to attend a short community discussion on the film facilitated by special guests from local schools and community health care experts.
"The Education of Shelby Knox" takes us through four tumultuous years in the life of an idealistic high school student in Lubbock, Texas. This coming of age story follows Shelby, as she struggles with the role of her church and family, as she fights for causes (sex-education, the rights of a gay-straight alliance) against complacent peers within her high school. This is a film for the whole family, as we learn from Shelby’s concerned, loving parents who strive to maintain a healthy family environment during some of the most difficult and confusing times of their daughter’s life.
This is a film that no one should miss! I highly recommend this film to parents, teachers, teenagers and everyone! Bring mom- why not? |
