The Shortwave Report 11/30/01 ¡LISTEN GLOBALLY! Current rating: 0
29 Nov 2001
A weekly 30 minute review of news and opinions recorded from a shortwave radio. 2 files- broadcast quality (13.6MB) & quick/streaming (3.4MB). Free to rebroadcast upon notification. Times and freqs for listening at home. Netherlands, Germany, Cuba, Russia.
The latest Shortwave Report (November 30) is up at the website http://www.outfarpress.com/outfarpress/shortwave.shtml in both broadcast quality (13.6MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.4MB) (29:50) It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (Real Player, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.
This week's show features stories from Radio Netherlands, Radio Deutsche Welle, Radio Havana Cuba, and the Voice of Russia.
From Netherlands- the UN reports a sharp increase in HIV in the past year; a state of emergency in Nepal; the UN General Assembly votes to have the US drop the embargo on Cuba; Amnesty International calls for an investigation of the massacre in Mazar-i Sharif; Greenpeace claims it knows who is resposible for the anthrax attacks in the US- someone who works for the US government.
From Germany- another version of the anthrax story, interviewing a German bioweapons expert; the UN, under HR Commissdioner Mary Robinson, launches a worldwide appeal to aid civilian victims of war; a Press Review from Wednesday on the talks in Bonn, US oil motivation in Central Asia, and the US threat to extend the war to Iraq.
From Cuba- a report on Iraq's response to the US demand to allow in weapons inspectors.
From Russia- it's ribbon-cutting time on the new pipeline from Kazakstan across the Caspian Sea with the US Secretary of Energy, financed by US oil companies.
All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station.
I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated.
