Currently shoved under the carpet in the house is a bill which would repeal the war powers act and give the power to wage war back to the house. Why is it being hidden? |
Greetings,
I have been doing some research. Did you know that a bill is currently pending in congress and (intentionally?) referred to numerous committees and subcommittee's which's intent is to repeal the war powers act authorizing the president to unofficially declare war without congresses approval? Did you know this bill, if passed, could return the power to declare war and wage war to congress as the framers originally intended?
THIS BILL IS CALLED House Joint Resolution 27.
THIS IS THE SUMMARY OF THIS BILL AS OF: 3/6/2001 - When it Was Introduced.
Constitutional War Powers Resolution of 2001 - Repeals the War Powers Resolution.
Authorizes deployment of the U.S. armed forces into hostilities outside the United States only pursuant to: (1) a declaration of war; or (2) an attack upon the United States or its territories or possessions (currently, also pursuant to specific statutory authorization). Prohibits the obligation or expenditure of Department of Defense funds for deployment of forces in contravention of such provision.
Authorizes Members of Congress and persons aggrieved in a liberty or property interest adversely and directly affected to bring an action to challenge the validity of any presidential order which contravenes this Act.
It was sponsored by the following people on the following dates:
Bartlett, Roscoe G. - 6/19/2001
Rep Cubin, Barbara - 9/14/2001
Rep Doolittle, John T. - 3/20/2001
Rep Goode, Virgil H., Jr. - 3/29/2001
Rep Lee, Barbara - 3/13/2001
Rep Stark, Fortney Pete - 3/27/2001
Since its initial introduction, it was referred to the following committees for review:
House International Relations Committee House Armed Services Committee - Referred to DOD for Executive Comment
House Rules Committee
House Judiciary Committee - Subcommittee on Commercial Administrative Law (?)
If you need further proof, check out Congress's "Thomas" system. It lists all bills currently pending. A direct hyperlink to the bill is at the bottom of this article.
Did you notice that one congressperson signed on to the bill after September 11th? Perhaps you also noticed that the "sole dissenter" Barbara Lee was an original sponsor of this bill? Why are we letting them fight alone?
Our representatives in congress are fighting a losing battle because no-one wants us to know that this bill exists.
It think it is in our interest to retake control of the ability to wage war and place it back into the hands of Congress. Then we can hold our representatives responsible.
Support the representatives that are sponsoring this bill and call on your representatives to push it out of committee and approve it in the general assembly. We have the power to do so. Let's move on it through grassroots efforts and protest!
I will attempt to provide the names of each member of these committees at a later date.
I invite comment on the subject.
