KHANYOUNIS, October 13, 2004, (WAFA)- A 10-year-old Palestinian schoolgirl, Ghadeer Mokheimer, died Wednesday of wounds she sustained after having been shot by Israeli soldiers while she was setting at her school in Khanyounis refugee camp, south of Gaza, Palestinian medical sources said. |
.
The European Hospital sources said that Ghadeer was critically wounded yesterday after having been shot with a heavy bullet in the chest.
.
Witnesses said that Israeli troops, stationed at the Neve Dekalim colony, west of the refugee camp of Khanyounis, opened random fire at houses and the school when Ghadeer was shot, witnesses said. They added that Ghadeer was shot while she was at her UNRWA's Co-Ed Elementary D School in the southern camp of Khanyounis.
.
She was immediately taken to Nassir Hospiatl then carried to the European Hospital, in Khanyounis, according to witnesses.
.
UNRWA called on the Israeli "authorities' to stop firing at schools.
.
In a press release issued Tuesday, UNRWA's Commissioner-General demanded that such shootings "must stop". "Israel routinely denies that its soldiers have been involved, or invokes the security requirements of its positions," UNRWA said.
