Seems more likely to me that this would relate to the goings on in Europe than in the US. All the servers effected by this were European IMCs, and there is a big rucus going on over there, which IMC is reporting on quite heavily. If this were a domestic concern, you'd think they'd have taken action within the US, and taken servers that host US sites. I think they are trying to reduce organizing effectiveness in Europe in order to deter the mass demonstrations that are going on there at the moment.
