You said, "There is no need to trot out the same strawman argument about "free speech" over and over again."
It cannot be a "strawman" as long as you are practicing the censorship of any and all messages that question, or provide comment, that you don't personally happen to like when they do not truly violate any policy guidlines. I have already stated that I do see messages here that probably should be hidden, but it is obvious to anyone who reads the messages in the hidden area that there are a lot of messages that are removed for a supposed "policy violation" which violated none of the "policy" at all. That is "censorship", pure and simple. Perhaps there is someone who really does know the value of free speech in your organization that can differentiate between messages being removed for valid reasons and those being mistakenly censored by people who apparently cannot tell the difference?
>"Please read the Mission Statement, linked to from the mainpage under "Info":
I have read it, and even with a "liberal" reading and understanding, none of the comments removed were "duplicat posts, threats and intidation, flooding or spamming, off topic, or commercial solicitation". They were nothing other than plain old comments, and there was no reason for them to be removed.
Furthermore, your policy also states,
Hiding Posts: When the Steering Group is made aware of posts that should be hidden, it should make a reasonable attempt must be made to contact the author of the post in
question and to explain the IMC's appropriate use policy, asking for cooperation and compliance. In the event that a post in made anonymously, or no valid
e-mail address is posted, then no effort can reasonably take place to contact
the author."
Since my email address is a valid one, you have not even ever followed your own policy. I have never received any email communication from anyone at IMC regarding any of my comments, let alone any valid explanation of their removal, no attempt of "cooperation", or anything else relating to the above. I, on the other hand, fully have attempted to cooperate and not post messages that violate the sites policies, yet my comments continue to be hidden along with those of others who are not attempting to cooperate. I am offended at being placed in the same lot as they, and offended that my valid posts are being removed along with others that do need to be removed.
Face it, censorship is being practiced here, and it is as big an outrage here as it is on some of the conservative sites that do the same things. Please, just follow your own policies, and stop removing messages that do not truly violate the guidlines. |
