ML, of course you would say the Chief supporters are out of touch with reality. I tend to think the people who protested the Chief are out of touch with reality. Opinion's are like a**holes...... My reference to the Chief issue being pushed by a FEW people (and I refer to 33% of the population as a FEW) is indeed accurate. You yourself admitted that 2 in 3 people were in favor of keeping the Chief (I read that correctly didn't I? 2-1 in favor would be 2 out of 3?). Out of the 66% of the students who did not vote could you make an assumption as to which side they were on? Were they the silent majority or the vocal minority? As far as me being a hypocrit I hope you aren't saying that I am not active in any of the noble causes I suggested.... because I in fact am very active in all of them. I have never denied that White people did terrible things to the Indians. Name me a race that white people haven't abused? As for my name I am not James Mortland. I also am not Jack Ryan. I have posted messages under the name Jim M. My beliefs that people will find something to protest or fight against are proven over and over again. If the U of I changes their mascot to an animal, PETA will be all over them. If they change it to a vegtable it will stereotype the farmers in this area (The Illinois corn cobs seems especially catchy). If they change the name to reflect one of the greatest Presidents the country has had and they become the Illinois Lincolns that would upset the Democrats. There isn't a name they could pick that wouldn't offend someone. Our society has become waaaayyy too sensitive. |
