A weekly 30 minute review of news and opinions recorded from a shortwave radio. Streaming audio (3.4MB) and broadcast quality(13.7MB). Free to rebroadcast upon notification. This week- Netherlands, Cuba, Russia, Spain, Germany. Times and freqs for listening at home. |
The latest Shortwave Report (August 17) is up on the website http://www.outfarpress.com/ ) and ready to download. Please use the "broadcast quality" file if you are going to rebroadcast, the difference in sound quality is significant. If you're just going to listen and have a dial-up modem, the "streaming audio" and "quick download" versions work good enough. The show is free to rebroadcast, please notify if you air it, please mention the website if you only air a portion of it.
This week's show features stories from Radio Netherlands, Radio Havana Cuba, the Voice of Russia, Spanish National Radio, and Radio Deutsche Welle.
From Netherlands- a Dutch description of the stay of execution in Texas; spy scandals and military tensions are building between Nicaragua, Honduras, and El Salvador.
From Cuba- Nicaragua is facing a coffee crisis, drought, and famine, and the government is on a two-month vacation; activists in Mexico are outraged by the amendments to the law on indigenous rights; an agricultural university in Mexico declares that NAFTA's effect on Mexican agriculture is a disaster; 3rd nationwide protest in Argentina over IMF perscribed "economic shock package"; Columbian legislators say the US financed spraying of coca crops is a total failure; an opinion piece on the US threat to boycott the UN conference on Racism in Durban South Africa.
From Russia- a story on Fidel Castro's 75th birthday and his importance in 20th century (and 21st) history.
From Spain- the Sudanese President asks the men to take on multiple wives and quickly double the population; in Zimbabwe white farmers continue to be attacked and their farms ransacked in the President's plan to return agriculture to the Africans.
From Germany- the IRA withdraws its offer to disarm while 3 alleged members are arrested in Columbia, accused of helping rebels with weapons; a story from Man and Environment about a solar-powered air-conditioning system being developed in Germany.
All this plus times and frequencies for listening globally at home. I hope you'll broadcast it if you're a radio broadcaster or listen to it if not. I'm still looking for a funder if you've got an extra one or ideas of how I can speed up "the money following my doing what I love."
