Calling on all activists in central Illinois to converge on Peoria to demand that Caterpillar cease all sales to the Israeli Military |
On April 23, 2004, a national convergence--led by the International Solidarity Movement--will descend upon Peoria to demand that the Caterpillar corporation cease selling armored bulldozers to Israel.
The sales of these machines have enabled Israel to commit crimes that are strictly forbidden by international law--specifically violating the Fourth Geneva Convention, the Rome Statute of the International Court and the Hague Conventions.
In March 2003, Rachel Corrie a US citizen providing humanitarian aid with the International Solidarity Movement in Palestine was crushed while trying to defend a civilian's home from a Caterpillar bulldozer. Corrie's parents will be part of a delegation hoping to meet with CAT CEO James Owens on April 23.
Students arriving the night before (Thursday, April 22nd) will be treated to a concert featuring folk singers David Rovics and Joe Jencks, both of whom have been active in the struggle for the liberation of Palestine for some time.
Simona Sharoni, an Israeli Jew and professor to Rachel Corrie at Evergreen State University will also speak on Thursday night.
