The Lot Project seeks creative proposals for possible uses and reconfigurations of the vacant lot adjacent to the Champaign County Historical Museum. This public competition invites residents of Champaign-Urbana to envision a public space that responds to the desires and necessities of themselves and their community. We seek imaginative proposals from all members of the community, whether young or old, professional or student, designer or non-designer, artist or homemaker, laborer or manager—here is your chance to envision a space of your own for your friends and neighbors and associates. |

Participants are encouraged to register their intention to submit a project by March 31. The submission deadline is April 24, 2004.
The design competition will culminate in a public receptionand exhibition of the proposals at the Champaign County Historical Museum. A jury comprised of diverse members from the community will evaluate the competition entries and select a winning design which the Champaign County Historical Museum has agreed to consider actually realizing in the vacant lot. The Museum has long-term plans to eventually construct a new addition to their current building in the lot at 106 E. University, but wishes to utilize the lot as a meaningful public space in the interim.
The initiation and oversight of the competition is a joint collaboration between local artists Meredith Warner and Jeremy Beaudry and the Champaign County Historical Museum.
