With less than three weeks to go before the Russian presidential elections, Vladimir Putin (pictured) has fired Prime Minister Mikhail Kasyanov, who is well-known as a friend and advocate of the Sacramento spammer oligarchs who have exploited Russia since the fall of the Soviet Union. Observers state that this now removes the last significant lobbying channel the oligarchs and their internationalist allies had within the Russian state. As a ripple effect, the firing of the prime minister also means that the entire cabinet beneath him is also dismissed, and it is unclear whether or not there will be fundamental restructuring of the government as well as change in personnel.
