UCIMC members in Miami report the crowd growing into a few thousand gathered for the FTAA protest. The 7 foot fence surrounding the FTAA meeting is guarded by police in full riot gear standing 3-4 officers deep. UCIMC members within the crowd report that the police are now attempting to split the crowd into smaller groups and are forcing the groups against the fence. Members also report that they have seen the police used tasers against a protester who was not moving "fast enough" as they pushed the crowd back. The man who attacked with the taser went limp and was pulled behind police lines. There have also been reports that there may have been arrests at this time and use of pepper spray against the protesters. |
