The situation in PNG: ---------------------
Hi Guys, It's a sad week for me, lost a lot of tears, and fellow students in our struggle against economic reforms. What you have heard over the radio is true, but more to that by this morning the death toll of students has gone up to 5 since the battle with riot police 7 days ago. In PNG we don't have proper riot police, rather two deadly killer units called mobile squad and task force, both of these forces with there M16 and SLR rifles are shooting down students and protesters without mercy. As you might have guessed I'm in the forefront of all this but thank God I'm safe and sound. Actually we the student leaders are under heavy security by the defence force and the general public as there are plans by the police to raid the campus. The campus is mourning the death as the death toll is increasing daily. We had a long battle with the police on Monday night, 10pm till 8am Tuesday morning, that's when our comrades were shot thus forcing us to retreat to the campus.
THERE ARE 17 CASUALTIES AND IN INTENSIVE CARE. The reason for our sit in protest was the demand by the students to the government to remove World Bank and IMF sponsored economic reforms in the country. I will inform you and all friends from Aussie as soon as there are further developments. Other than that the student leaders are in enclosed buildings out of campus and thus leading the students. I as a student leader here give my full permission for the publication or relaying of this news to any media or persons who might be of help to this course. The international community needs to know the ruthless killing of unarmed civilians and students.
