Central Europe recently experienced severe flood. The Czech republic is especially affected, with many of its cities and countryside devastated--the worst flood in the documented history of the region. People have lost lives and their homes, crops have been destroyed, and chemical plants flooded threatening the environment. The country is a cultural jewel with historical buildings and monuments in the capital city of Prague as well as in other places. Many of these buildings and even some city centers as a whole had been put on the UNESCO list. Hundreds of thousands of tourists come every year to the Czech Republic to admire the cultural heritage. A large part of this historical beauty has now been severely damaged by the flood. The Czech economy, which is going through a painful recovery from the decades of Communism, may now plunge into a recession that may significantly delay its becoming part of the European Union.
We have established the Flood Relief Fund through the organization PEOPLE IN NEED (www.floods.cz or www.pinf.cz ) and the Foundation for Civil Society (www.fcsny.org ).
All donations are anonymous and tax deductible.
