Champaign County AFL-CIO opens "Voice at Work" week with a demonstration at the new Super Wal-Mart being built with non-union labor in Champaign. Link to Maine radio program about Wal-Mart impacts, too. |
Come one, come all to the Picket at Savoy (Route 45 just south of town)
at the WalMart that is in construction right now. There is going to be a
massive rally on Saturday, June 9, 2001 from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon with
representatives from all the Unions in the Champaign County area. We are
fighting in support of our Union Brothers and Sisters who are not getting
a chance to perform the construction on the site like they should be. We
must support them because "AN INJURY TO ONE IS AN INJURY TO ALL!!"
Please make an extra effort to attend and get this message out and
encourage others to attend. This is important!!
Pray for the Dead and Fight Like Hell for the Living!
The web link is to RadioActive News, a discussion & call-in program about resistance to Wal-Mart & sprawl. Includes coverage of the upcoming referendum on "big box" stores in Belfast, Maine. Go to www.radio4all.net for a progressive radio from around the world! It's a great site. |

Thank you IMC for helping to turn-out people for the rally and of course your coverage of the event, that of course the local corporate media ignored.
It will take some time before most of the Building Trades leadership will feel comfortable with the IMC, however at the rally I noticed the Plumber business agent in particular being unusually friendly when I introduced Sarah to him and she asked to interview him. He agreed.
The Trades have been historically distrustful of the media ( usually for good reason ) But the presence and participation of the IMC at the rally is one more step in the right ( correct that is ) direction.
Thanks again IMC !
In Solidarity
