A true legend of local radio, Kent McConkey will be missed. He was one of the greats at keeping radio local and what it was meant to be: fun.
We should let him know we were listenin' out there.... |

WEFT will hold a tribute to the Oldtimer in his regular slot this Saturday, October 15, 5-8pm.
No word on the future of Kent's timeslot, but it just won't be the same without him. However, there is certainly a community of listeners out there who will need a dose of country on Sat. nights. |

I listened to "Oldtimer" on many, many occasions. Once I got a ride from him (and his daughter). I told him how much I enjoyed his shows. He was incredibly happy. I liked how he conveyed greetings to others on his show. I love blue-grass and songs that one never hears here on radio. On his show, I could listen to some great songs. I was lucky that once he played a song that I called in. I will miss his approach to reach out to the communities - not matter where. He will be sadly missed.
Many years away, when K.Haas passed away, I missed him too. Adventures in Good Music was another great show.
Here is looking up to you, Kent McConkey. |

I have know "The Old Timer" for many years. I was with Kent when he first discussed starting a radio show. When he puts his mind to something, he really does a great job! I have sung many songs with him. He is a wonderful person and I will miss him very much! |
