The SHORTWAVE REPORT Feb 28 ¡LISTEN GLOBALLY! Current rating: 0
27 Feb 2003
A weekly 30 minute review of news and opinion recorded from a shortwave radio. 2 files- broadcast quality (13.3MB) and quick download (3.3MB). With times and freqs for listening at home. Free to rebroadcast. China, Netherlands, Russia, Germany, Spain, and Cuba
Dear Radio Friend,
The latest Shortwave Report (February 28) is up at the website http://www.outfarpress.com/outfarpress/shortwave.shtml in both broadcast quality 13.3MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.3MB) (29:17) It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.
This program will be aired on Friday evening at 7pm on KZYX/Z Philo CA, you might be able to stream via http://www.kzyx.org
There are several other streams that work better- http://members.cruzio.com/~frsc/ Freak Radio Santa Cruz (96.3fm) streams this program on Friday at 5:35pm (PST) and on Monday at 9amPST.
Also check out LavaLamp Radio (Japan)- http://www.rinku.zaq.ne.jp/bkaec205/
streaming the SWR, check out the schedule.
And the Partytown streams are great and informative- http://www.partytown.com/radio
This week's show features stories from China Radio International, Radio Netherlands, the Voice Of Russia, Radio Deutsche Welle, Spanish National Radio, and Radio Havana Cuba.
From China- A North Korean perspective on the so-called nuclear crisis on the Korean Peninsula- are the joint US/S Korean military exercises a provocation?
From Netherlands- N Korea says a US spy plane has been flying around, making preparations for an attack. Antiwar protestors have been extremely active in Italy stopping trains carrying war machinery, while in the Netherlands protestors chained themselves together, blocking the entrances to US Army centers. 300 Dutch troops have been stationed in Turkey to operate Patriot missles. Arms-control activists are disturbed by a new wave of nuclear weapons being developed in the US, and the US threats of using them in Iraq.
From Russia- A commentary on how the US is having a difficult time finding backers for its hard-line stance against Iraq, and the overwhelming opposition of the citizens of nations like Spain, whose President supports war plans.
From Germany- First a brief press review about the differences between the will of UN Sec Council members and their citizens. Tony Blair is scrambling for credibility among the people of the UK- this commentary reviews Blair's choreography, and suggests it may be his swan song. Leaders of the Non-Aligned movement meeting in Malaysia delivered fierce criticism of the hypocrisy of the West.
From Spain-Spain's Prime Minister has seen his popularity plunge as mass demonstrations against a war and the oil spill continue. Tony Blair says US Prisoners in Guantanemo Bay cannot remain in Limbo forever, as Human Rights groups express outrage. Mexican President Fox offers some support for a new UN resolution, and then some details of the antiwar actions in Italy.
From Cuba- Israeli PM Sharon has finalized his rt-wing government, with members who oppose Palestinian statehood while supporting expanding Israeli settlements. Then a Viewpoint on the long war in Columbia, where US military involvement has recently increased, and the devastating violence wears down the people.
All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station. I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated. Any stations rebroadcasting this (or listeners) are welcome to donate for production costs. You can do so through the website. Many thanks to those that have donated! No Guilt!
