A play about the death penalty. |
Note: Don't miss this play! I was told last night by Delbert Tibbs (one of the exonerated that is portrayed in the play) that Parkland's cast is the first that he has seen to do the play without reading the script in front of them. All of the leads are remarkable and the ensemble is terrific.

THE EXONERATED
by Jessica Blank and Erik Jensen
Director: Randi Jennifer Collins Hard
Location: Parkland College Theatre
Culled from interviews, letters, transcripts, case files, and the public record, THE EXONERATED tells the true and moving stories of six wrongfully convicted survivors of death row in their own words. This 90-minute intermissionless, riveting and hard-hitting play moves between first-person monologues and scenes set in courtrooms and prision. These six interwoven stories paint a picture of an American criminal justice system gone horribly wrong - and of six brave souls who persevered to survive it.
Randi Jennifer Collins Hard directs a cast that includes Minor W. Jackson, Julie Bedwell, Aaron Ammons, Kali Boyden, Jason McCain, Larry Trimble, Paul Harleston, Jeanie Cogswell, Richard Morris, David G. Dillman, David Barkley, and Brad Mehrtens.
The preview performance is Wednesday, September 28, at 8pm, with all tickets $4.99. "The Exonerated" continues on September 30 and October 1, 6, 7, 8 at 8pm, and October 9 at 3pm. Tickets on Thursday, October 6 are half their regular price. On Friday, September 30, there will be a special discussion after the show where the audience gets an opportunity to talk to Delbert Tibbs, one of the exonerated portrayed in the play, and Rachael Dietkus, former Program Director of the Illinois Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty.
"The Exonerated" is recommended for those 15 and up, due to mature language. Regular tickets are $10 for general admission and $8 for students and seniors. Reservations can be made by calling the box office at 351-2528 or emailing theatre (at) parkland.edu. |
